I'm really really really trying my hardest to stay out of these Tom discussions today. I certainly have my opinions on it haha.

  2. Jason, do you have a way to look up when I joined AP.net? I'm curious. I want to say 2006 ish?

I don't want to say anything, especially since he gave a shout out to blink, like I would love for all of them to even hang out and be friends. But what good does it do to talk shit on your actual biggest hit. Dude needs somebody to tell him what to say in the worst way and has for years.

Idk what’s so bad about dismissing your early work like a ton of musicians do

I think some of ya'll are reading too much into what he said. He said he sounds like he's 8 years old on ATST. Yeah.....he does. His voice is so deep now and back in that era his voice was so high pitched. I don't think he's dismissing the song in any way, just pointing out that the song is 20 years old and he was just a kid when he wrote it.

I miss being in a band so we could play obnoxious songs for soundchecks and practices and whatnot. Papa Roach was good for laughs.

My own worst enemy was the first single I ever bought. On cassette no less. Song still goes hard to this day!

  9. I always try to get everyone to play "Break Stuff" by Limp Bizkit with me, but they never do... sigh.

This. He was making fun of his own vocal take, not the band, or even the song as a whole

I totally would only if it's sandwiched between Faith and Nookie.

  13. Haha I always played the “Rearranged” bass line at practice, soundcheck, between songs. Literally no one ever gets it. Hahaha. I’m not THAT bad a bass player and that bass line grooves!

  14. I always play the riff to "Break Stuff", the opening riff of "Slide" by the Goo Goo Dolls, and the main riff of "The Impression That I Get" by the Mighty Mighty Bosstones.

Late to the "Biggest song" discussion but....I Miss You is Tom's biggest song (even though it has a Mark verse in it)

Whenever I hear the song out at bars, "Work sucks, I know" and "WHERE ARE YOOOU" get equally big scream alongs from the crowd haha

I Miss You gets played a lot less by live bands than ATST does obviously, but I hear I Miss You a lot more on radio still

I call this "the blink-182 fallacy"

Implying any iteration, time period, or quality of blink is better than another on a talent level.

Pre-hiatus blink suck, reunion-era blink sucked, and Matt-era blink sucks. I don't listen to this band because they're great musicians or they put on an amazing live show. I like them cause my preteen self related to them, and to this day I can't get their annoyingly catchy songs out of my fucking head.

Also I hear Dammit & WMAA a lot more on the radio than ATST. I hear First Date and I Miss You occasionally, in fact once I heard an EDM I Miss You remix.

  22. I call this "nonsense."

There's definitely differences in song writing quality in the different eras and with what they were trying to do, where it worked, and where it didn't.

The quality within writing a subversive pop-song like "Dammit" or a massive hit like "All the Small Things" is talent very few possess.

I mean, I oversimplified, clearly they're solid pop songwriters, but there is no point in arguing about any era of blink being better than another.

In 2001 when Tom sang with his whiny pop-punk voice, people would say he was a bad singer. When he did his overly clean "drunk Bono" deep voice people called him bad. Now that Matt's in the band people call him a bad live performer.

And really, at that point it's like "does it even really matter?" People will always complain about this band, so why even bother?
