    Because he’s a pompous asshole.

Yeah that's not great, but I guess the history he has with reporters asking all those questions about violence and what not just took a toll on him where he doesn't give those kind of questions the time of day. That's how I see it anyway.

The article posted the other day had more examples of the problematic aspects of the film and what he was questioned on or didn’t answer. The fact that he responded so poorly to that particular question is troubling on top of those other issues.

He’s absolutely an arrogant pompous asshole and responded as such, but the idea he hasn’t written well developed female characters is just as unfounded as the idea that how many lines a character has in a film means that character won the film or something

That’s not what any of the criticism about this film has said.

His treatment of women has been more problematic than his character writing, and his answer highlights that aspect. And his unwillingness to acknowledge or confront the issues that have been raised confounds the problem.

Man I thought most QT fans enjoyed Django Unchained. It’s a top 5 QT flick for me. Christophe and Leo give incredible performances.

Again, the other article posted mentioned a lot of the other problematic elements of the film and his personal treatment of women, not just a single question that seemed destined for clickbait misinterpretation.

i haven’t read negative things about his treatment of women in this film, granted only a small number of people have seen it, apart from that woman’s question. maybe i need to search for it more though and I’ve just missed it. I have plenty of issues with his treatment of Uma on the set of Kill Bill, absolutely, and some other stuff I’ve read about treatment on the set of IB, etc. As for his treatment of female characters within his films, I’ve always thought he’s done a decent job of empowering them (death proof/kill bill/ Jackie brown, Inglourious Basterds).

His mistreatment of women in general is what I’m talking about. And the fact that he is so often given a pass for personal and professional misogyny because of his films is a major aspect of that.

Yeah, for sure, its weird to defend his treatment of women by defending his treatment of women within his stories. I was referring to his treatment of women in general, like while making his movies, and when responding to women doing their jobs. This goes to his refusal to discuss the issues confounding the problem. You have people in here defending him on his writing, QT could have done that himself if he just treated the woman like a human being and answered her question.

And I guess that article from earlier didn’t say that he WAS asked more difficult questions than the dialogue one, but it did a good job of spelling out some much more pressing issues than what did come up.

Even the fact that he left the heavy lifting of such a loaded question to Margot is just such a bad look, and that’s not getting into stuff like Emile being in this or other claims about him personally that haven’t been addressed.

What was brought up in this thread and that story was his treatment of a character in this film, that’s what that reporter asked about, which i don’t think is a particularly good or even relevant argument. As for all the other, real life stuff, I’m right there with you guys 100%

Well when I brought it up and linked the article I said my problem is that he treats women like shit. I could have been more clear than that, but I thought when you read the article his response to the woman asking the question was more problematic than the content of the question itself.

It's a great movie in a great filmography. I wouldn't argue if it was moved up higher. Honestly after my top 3, the rest could be switched around.

Personally, I find his liberal use of the N word just as troubling as his misogyny. I mean, probably one of the most famous parts of Pulp Fiction is him dropping that word in reckless abandon, to a black man no less.

Jackie Brown is too low on any ranking where it isn’t top 3.

But QT put Uma Thurman in legitimate harm’s way in the name of making a movie in Kill Bill and that’s so unnecessary, complete asinine bullshit. I don’t remember specifically but I think he publicly apologized and talked about it.

He is a pretty massive dick in general though.

Can’t defend QT re: the Uma situation and he’s done a lot of other skeezy shit in real life, but I don’t really understand the internet outrage over this one. Screentime/dialogue does not equal importance in a film. He was terse in his response, as he often is. He’s a dick.

    A (Cancelled) Dork Prestigious

The guy has never been able to not put his foot in his mouth (pun intended). All he had to do was say "Well, she isn't really the main character of this film and so naturally she doesn't have as much dialogue as Leo or Brad do." Instead he chose to be an asshole (aka "be Tarantino") for no reason other than he personally felt attacked.

    And yeah, this.
