I had an extremely disrespectful crowd at SXSW, one of the few times I had drank before my set. They were talking during my songs and changing for the next act in between songs. I played through my setlist and left the stage.

 

Sure but, and im not knocking you, would you consider your band anywhere near as big as STD?

 

I'm not a huge fan of speculating about someone who may or may not have problems with alcohol, or how said problems may manifest themselves/affect that individual person if they do have them, personally.

I just think there are certain pressures and expectations I could never comprehend when you've been a band with a very loyal following for 20 years.

 

And being less big than STD actually would contribute to being disrespected by crowds I would argue

 

Ducking EXACTLY. Add in a drinking problem and careers ups and downs etc.

 

But we are dissecting one bad night he had (I think there were several others) he had out of thousands of performances.

 

Johnny Depp abused Amber Heard under the influence of alcohol but that doesn't make him not an abuser, extreme example


on the other hand everyone has off days, if someone can't sing as well one night or is losing focus I get it

 

That's true but I'm looking from the perspective of the person who went to that one bad night to see their favorite band and was disappointed by it. I don't think it's fair to say that they're not allowed to have a negative opinion on the band now because of it.

 

Chris did a GREAT podcast with Geoff Rickly on Geoff's podcast a year or two ago. It's a fantastic conversation I did not want to end, I suggest everyone check it out. They talk alot about their own personal demons (Geoff has been clean from heroin for 5 years I believe) but the way Chris talks really sounds like he had a real problem with booze and has addressed it correctly now.

 

Totally, if I was there I have no idea what I would think.

 

I’m also not saying it’s cool, nor would I want to go to see them again (probably I doubt I’d be there in the first place so idk) but saying well I’ve known people in bands or even actually played shows and I would or my friends wouldn’t have done the same. You don’t know that. You don’t know what’s it’s like to be Chris or anyone other than yourself. No one does.

Exactly, I always make sure to put myself in other peoples shoes because I feel like its so easy to just point fingers and say what you would of done if you were them. Even in horrible situtations, I do the same thing.

 

I know what it's like to have a problem with alcohol though and I can speak from my personal experiences. Yeah I can't pretend like I know what it's like to be Chris or in his exact situation, and every situation is different, but if someone's like "You don't understand what it's like to be an alcoholic and perform music" I think I can at least stick up for myself and tell y'all to shove it if you think I can't get it.
