We talk too much / We talk in circles

The bridge to No Future is straight off any Alkaline Trio record.

    The vocals are evenly distributed.

I haven't even heard the album but I know there's like 50% Skiba. Even some songs seem to have too much of him so it's definitely not "guest vocals" from him.

    Things have changed.

I mean, you said "at no point" – those are the two that jumped out to me. I'd argue Matt's fingerprints are all over "Bored to Death" as well.

Imagine if 2 years from now the said they (mostly Mark) weren't happy with California just like they did with Neigborhoods...

    Evenly distributed to it's detriment.
I'd rather of had 5 Matt songs, 5 Mark songs, and 5 duel vocal songs.

The songs blend together too much when they all share the same vocal dynamic, especially when the lead guitar is so generic on almost every track.

The bridge in San Diego, most of Left Alone, the guitar and melody of Home Is Such A Lonely Place, there are marks and traces of him all over the place, especially taking into consideration that Alkaline Trio isn't the only thing he does.

Once again, the entire bridge of No Future is Alkaline Trio. The rhythm guitar, the subsequent lead part, the melody, the delivery etc.

    It's all there.

But since you've decided your opinion already, you will ignore everything we say.

Maybe Matt is also tired of playing darker, minor-key rock. Maybe he's actually enjoyed getting to write sunnier songs for a change.

    Just saying....

and The Only Thing That Matters does pretty much sound like Trio all the way through.

I'm so happy Skiba is going to go on the largest tour of his life, make a shit tom of money and probably have some charting hits. Dude deserves it

DEf gives me an early alk3 vibe.. I would love to hear more Matt influenced songs on their next record.. Been listening to Fatally Yours a lot this month and want stuff along the lines of that with some Mark/Travis influence.. Calling All Skeletons as well

  15. I hate when people say this shit.

As if you have the right to tell career musicians when they should or shouldn't abandon their professions/Like you're saving the rest of us by saying a band we love should have stayed broken up just because their new music doesn't appeal to you. Surely if you don't like it no one else will!

Ugh. Go back under your bridge.

    Again ... "Marks and traces"
To me that translates to Mark wrote the foundation of the track, and gave it to Matt and told him to do what he does within the already written parameters.

I've been finding Matt's parts more interesting on this record, maybe cause I feel that I've heard Mark do this before, whereas with Matt, even though he's done poppy/catchy stuff, it's different (in a good way) to hear him singing really poppy stuff if that makes some sort of sense (?)

It's not his band. This is not an alkaline trio record and yet he has more parts and influence that most people were expecting. This is still a blink-182 album, not a mashup.

Even as a Skiba fangirl "why doesn't this sound more like alkaline trio" makes no sense.

  21. And plus Alkaline Trio and Blink are two different bands. Thank god Blink finally has a guitarist who knows how to separate his two bands.

    I love this record.

I'd go even further and say Travis is the busiest of the band musically and he STILL finds the time to play in Blink.

I've been listening to the record all day, and I'm going to agree with others that Matt really shines on this. I can hear elements of Trio, but it's not glaring and he really fits in with this new sound. I welcome the more bass driven, less riffy blink, and I treat it as a sound all its own.

Like it sounds like a blink record without trying to sound like what they think people expect from blink.

Not only that he makes blink his #1 priority, not just finds time for it
