Man, as bad as England looked, this was far and away Iceland's best game. I'm glad they pushed up a little bit more than they had been. Took pressure off the D and gave England a few scares. Well played all around.

Nah, there's no good English manager. Get the best one they can find, preferably someone younger than 60.

The RFU made the bold decision of bringing in Eddie Jones and that turned out way better than expected. The FA need to do the same.

I think as a general rule, all national teams should be managed by a person from that nation. I think it kind of defeats half the point of international competition if you get somebody outside of the country to do it. There isn't any good English managers though, you're right.

Not a bad shout, I think going down that route would be better than getting the likes of pardew, alladyce etc. That's if we go English of course.

Personally, I 100% agree. Id take it a step farther and say that in an ideal world, each country's national team would be full of the homegrown domestic league's best, and international competitions would truly showcase each nation's individual style. I just finished reading Soccernomics, however, and it argued that having foreign coaches makes you better because it brings in new ideas, and that prevents advantaged nations from dominating even more. Having diverse domestic leagues does the same. By extension, England's national team should benefit since their native players play against the best foreigners. Sorry for the long response haha, I always felt so strongly about national teams having native coaches too and the book wrecked it.

Be sure to drink your Ovaltine.

England will hire Sam Allardyce and we'll do this all over again after the 2018 World Cup.

I love to laugh at England like the rest of us, but I do genuinely feel bad for Sam, George, and the rest of the English contingent in here.

I don't feel bad. I'd feel bad after a narrow loss, or a classic penalty shootout defeat. I don't feel bad about being completely outplayed by Iceland. We were absolutely shit at an unparalleled level, fully deserved everything we got.

Yeah but we both suck so it's all fair game.

    We're both equally laughable.

He was astonishingly bad today. He'd had an okay (I guess) tournament before then, but he sunk to a new level today.

That's what he was like pre FA Cup final for us. He's just not cut out to be a midfielder, at all. I hope Jose sees that.

Depressing that I'd want to get rid of many players from today, but this would be team for the WC quals:

    ------------Forster-----------
    Clyne - Smalling - Stones - Rose
    ----Drinkwater - Henderson-----
    Vardy----- Wilshere---- Rashford
    ----------Sturridge-----------

Maybe swap Wilshere into Henderson's place and put Barkley behind Sturridge. I'd keep Smalling as he's our best CB when on form. Rose was also good I believe. Wilshere isn't match fit yet still played better and cared more than most. Sturridge had a bad game but i got the impression he cares when he plays for England. Dier just had a bad game but i believe in him despite being a Spud, would still bench.

Kane can fuck off. Rooney can fuck off. Cahill can fuck off. Alli needs to dropped, he's not ready. Lallana isn't good enough, we could all see. Walker can't cut it against top opposition. Hart needs dropping to bench, he's a liability in big games.

We don't necessarily need to rip everything up and start again. Rooney is hopefully done, and I imagine that may be it for Cahill and Milner, but other than that I don't have a problem necessarily with the players we have. Hodgson completely botched this tournament, but I think the player selection is mostly fine.

Kane has scored for fun for two seasons, Walker was our best player (damning with the faintest praise) at the tournament, Lallana ran him a close second, Dier is potentially a top-class 6, Sterling/Alli/Barkley/Rashford are young enough and full of potential.

I'd more or less keep the same squad for our next internationals in September or whenever, but hopefully with a manager who knows how to utilise them.
