  1. This was played as loud as I could every single day for months.

Kings of Pop is probably more accessible though.

Feldmann's been on a nice streak. He's done a lot of albums in the past that I didn't like very much, but between ATL last year and Blink this year, and the new GC which I'll probably like, it's a nice body of work in these two years.

I wonder if/when Goldfinger record another album, how many people will say they are trying to sound like blink

you're probably right, i just meant "ain't bad" in the sense that everybody in this thread knows the "Kokomo" hook. it's vapid, but it's infectious. totally suggestive of the classic "Beach Boys" sound and it revived their career, but you'll have a hard time convincing anybody it's on the same level. like "Kokomo", California calls back to the familiar Blink sound generally, but its bereft of the "i can't believe we're here" excitement that gave those records a lotta charm.

(and i bet you can guess which beach boy WASN'T on kokomo!)

i'm getting a similar vibe from these songs. anthemic, one-size-fits-all, hook heavy, festival-singalong-ready, and marketplace minded.

The Force Awakens is an aight comparison, but maybe the Star Trek reboot is better; both bear the external signifiers of a beloved IP, but under the hood is a paint-by-numbers engine. Smart enough career move though, and John Feldmann is really good at painting inside the lines.

i love Mark but he's absolutely the Mike Love of Blink 182. i like Mike Love too. nothin' wrong with being a centrist.

Shit, I hear like five different bands in here. Sounds nostalgic without even having heard the band before.

  7. Literally how I would define Blink-182's career.

speaking of Home Grown, interesting they haven't done any reunion activities since they broke up in 2005...

Do or do not, there is no try.

I posted some thoughts on the four released songs in your first listen thread today. I'm enjoying those for the same reasons I'm loving blink. 40 oz. Dream is fairly terrible but I could see that being a new generations "Girl All The Bad Guys Want" with its modern day references and name dropping etc.

Did you happen to get a copy of Decomposer that just went up on vinyl?

Kind of crazy to me that this tour is their first major US run since the 2011 Honda Civic tour. 5 year gap, so basically as long as the first breakup period.

  15. That band signing to Drive Thru Records was like one of the happiest moments I had as a kid. They had "Give It Up" on their homepage Ecard and I fucking lost my mind the first time it started. I didn't think pop-punk could sound better in 2002. I just thought like we had reached peak pop-punk. Hahaha.

  23. Yeah, apparently, from what I remember, Johnny wrote it after being picked on in high-school and bullied. It was before like ... school shootings became more prevent (BY THE WAY FUCK THAT I HAD TO TYPE THAT SENTENCE) ... if that was released now, for example, god damn. Ugh. There was a shooting my senior year I think at a high-school not that far from me ... and then Columbine ... I haven't been able to listen to that song since. I don't even see it here in my iTunes.
