I get why Dorne/Ellaria/the Sand Snakes hate the Lannisters, but is there no lingering grudge against the Targaryens after how Rhaegar kinda tossed Elia Martell aside and started a war and got her and her children murdered? This may have been explained better in the book but it's been a while since I read AFFC/ADWD.

Also thought the faith's shaming/mutilation of Loras seemed a little unnecessary considering they all got blown to shit like 3 minutes later

Possibly...you've gotta wonder what it'll actually take to finish off Clegane in combat

Fire probably, which would be an interesting mirror to Sandor's history with/fear of fire

edit: also fire has been pretty effective against the undead so far in this world

It could happen! Houndy seemed to take the loss well enough and was a decent sport about it. Add the Sand Snakes in that match and you've got a pretty satisfying way for Gregor to bite the dust...if that's even possible at this point.

What if in that battle he actually spoke and said "I've already fought a viper and CRUSHED HIS HEAD IN, JUST LIKE THIS" and collapsed the dragon's skull with his bare hands.

Yeah, Sandor using fire to defeat Gregor would definitely be a satisfying conclusion to that rivalry.

I want to see this team-up so bad. Also wouldn't be so far out of this world since they're both around the riverlands/both heading north I think

  9. That would make me so mad I'd punch through the TV screen with my face and rip the wiring out with my teeth.

As to most likely bait the general audience into next season, what are the plot lines left hanging or not mentioned at the end of the season?

    -Brienne and Pod.

-The Hound and his journey of revenge.

-Jamie either revolting or joining in Cersei's madness, he'll probably revolt if you ask me.

-Jorah and his quest for the cure. I have a feeling he went to the Citadel, but who knows.

To answer a couple of questions:

---the kids killing pycelle are Varys' 'little birds'. Qyburn has control of the Kings Landing birds now because when Varys left he stepped in and started taking care of them. We had a scene to explicitly show us this earlier this season when Qyburn is giving them a snack and they ask him if Varys is ever coming back.

---Jon is Dany's nephew, period. Rhaegar is the Mad King's first born son, Visarys was second, and Dany was born last, during the Rebellion. Jon is Lyanna Stark's son, and it is almost definitely (like 99.9999% at this point) her son with Rhaegar. That's why she whispers to Ned that Robert will kill him if he finds out.

---I definitely thought Jon/Sansa getting together was a possibility, but once his lineage comes to the forefront, and Dany has taken the Iron Throne, it seems like in all likelihood they will form a marriage pact to bring the North into the new Seven Kingdoms, Jon will leave Winterfell and Sansa will take over as Lady of the North. This is of course assuming all 3 of them survive the ice zombie apocalypse....which is definitely no guarantee.

the martell's in the book are adamant targ supporters because ellaria was going to be a queen and they were robbed of that, even with the lyanna stuff they never wavered in their secret support of the targaryens. i dont think its ever really explained how they feel about lyanna

GRRM has always say the story will end bittersweet. So we'll probably see people established in roles that we all assumed, but they might not live long after they've taken up these roles.

Oh for fuck's sake I hope Jon doesn't marry one of his relatives. Please don't devolve his arch like that, DB, DW and GRRM. If he's in King's landing let him sign on as a general or something. He's best at leading men into battle anyway, not ruling as a king. I don't think he has the spine for ruling Westeros. Dany, however, does, and she needs to get with Yara. And Theon could be the jester or butler or something.

Anyway, maybe I'm off base here since I haven't read the books (or many books at all for that matter lol), but does anyone else feel like GOT/ASOIAF is surpassing its status as pop culture phenomenon and gaining "important art/literature" status? I've got to say, and maybe I'm sounding like a pleb here, but I've never in my wildest dreams predicted I'd read a book or watch a show or movie that seems so complex and impressive with the structure of its narrative. I can't imagine it not having a massive effect on not only the medieval fantasy genre, but the way characters in upcoming sci fi, horror, historical fiction, etc movies/books/shows are portrayed. You rarely see storytelling in these genres that works on so many levels, takes as many unimaginably risky risks and nails as many payoffs as this one, with characters this nuanced and such a potent achievement of imagination. Usually you find it in complex literature, right? Does anyone think this story seems likely to change the way stories across all media are told, or do I need to hit up the literature section of a bookstore or something?

To be fair, someone would have to tell Jon or Dany that they're related to each other. Just because we know, they might not. Though, I have a strong feeling either Little Finger or Varys know who Jon really is.

it started kinda slow but I like where Jaime's evolution as a character is heading. I think Walder Frey comparing the two of them kind of got to him. Between that and mentioning to Edmure that Cersei was the type of person who would turn cities to ash for her children, but to actually see it play out seemed like it disgusted him.

Real quick, what made Lancell(sp?) follow the little kid in the first place? The kid wasn't actually doing anything wrong, right?

I mean, let's say the Dany marrying Jon thing never comes up in the first place. When you think about it, what's stopping Dany from wrecking KL's shit and being a Queen without a King, like Cersei is right now? She an unyielding force of progression who leaves a trail of justice in her wake. If she wants to usurp that witch and be Queen of Westeros and play the field, dating any men (and/or women) as she pleases, why wouldn't/couldn't she?

How exactly does Jon shacking up with his half-sister-soon-to-be-discovered-as-only-his-cousin devolve his arc and ruin his character so much to you guys?

Banging one's cousin isn't very depraved in the GOT universe.

cousins fuck all the time in this show (and IRL in royal families), it would mostly be weird because he grew up thinking of sansa as some kind of a sister, it'd be like thinking you have a sister only to find out she's actually a step sister and then banging her. just weird. less weird for him to shack up with dany in either scenario though.

According to British parliament, if a Queen (single at the time of taking the throne) marries a man, that man doesn't become King. For example look at Queen Elizabeth, she's married and that dude isn't a King.

As for this show being influential art... How do you think this show even got made? The books started a dramatic shift in fantasy in the 90s. Without that, we never get the show.

I doubt the show goes for Dany and Jon hooking up. Aside from I don't see it making a ton of sense for their arcs (especially with how removed Dany has kept herself from men since Drogo died), I think, while incest happens in-universe, Jon is too tied to the audience's sense of morality for them to feel comfortable going that route with him.

Also, just rewatched....I'm almost 99% sure Benjen winks at Bran when he sets him down by the tree. Basically telling us that he knows about Jon, and he put Bran down there because he wanted him to find out too.

I suspected Benjen knew way back in Season 1 (well, after I learned about the theory too haha) when he said to Jon "You would, if you knew what you were giving up" or something like that.
