re: sad summer additions, this might be a hot take but i think "emo nite" is probably bad for the scene in the long run

 

Curious if we’ll get an announcement after TBDM is done with their run with Meshuggah, Chaos and Carnage ends this week, or ATB’s run with KsE and Parkway Drive ends this week.

 

Just curious why you think that? I'm not a fan of those emo nite's but I'm curious why others think they are bad.

 

i don't think it's good for the overall health of a genre to compartmentalize it like that, and that those emo nights seem to exclusively engage with the genre through nostalgia, or that it's okay to like the music if it's relegated to a one off night.

there's certain scenes i think that having a night for work, like goth where you can easily round up fans of one off-beat genre or scene into one place. but emo nite seems to imply as though emo/pop-punk/metalcore are dead and in the stage of nostalgia when there's a lot of bands still trying to make money or push their art forward

 

Boiling an era of great music down to a novelty singalong night seems like it will do nothing but harm that scene's reputation.

Same! Definitely gonna try to hit it up. It’ll be hot as shit since it’s in Pasadena in August, but Deftones, Pixies, and then The Cure back-to-back-to-back will be worth it

 

I love the undercard: Chelsea, Twilight, Emma, Kaelan, Mogwai.... And obviously The Cure is awsome. Stacked through and through.

 

Emo is dead because nobody bought Prawn's last record.

 

closest i'll come to going to an emo night was watching prawn open up for Armor For Sleep

 

Possible The Cure/Deftones tour coming out of this? (They're clearly big fans of each other.)

I also think the actual show itself is just kind of shitty in its execution. Not really interested in watching a bunch of failed EDM bros act out some weird middle school wish fulfillment by lip syncing on stage to a shittily curated playlist.

Apparently the entire Summer Slaughter lineup is dropping tomorrow. Supposedly Cattle Decapitation, Carnifex, The Faceless, and Rivers of Nihil are on it.

I don't have any evidence but I'm convinced it'll be Periphery and Whitechapel since both put out new albums and haven't really toured extensively behind them yet

 

I think Periphery would be a weird fit considering all the other bands confirmed so far, but I’d be down with it
