The first season of Legends is a slog. Read a plot synopsis and then watch seasons 2-4. They let the show get increasingly goofier and less serious and it's just turned into this super fun and funny show with really strong characters and great performances.

Okay but the 100 gets goofier AND more dramatic. It's wonderful.

 

For reference, in season 3 they rescue young Barack Obama from being attacked by Gorilla Grodd. And then in another episode they go back to WWI and meet young Tolkien. It's amazing.

This season they traveled to 1951 Japan to save Godzilla creator Ishiro Honda from a giant tentacle monster that was brought to life through the use of a magical book that makes real anything written down in it. Then one of the team members (who we find out is secretly writing epic sci-fi romance novels in his spare time) uses it to bring a three-breasted warrior woman from one of his books to life.
