Yeah I'd just rather have money SOME of the year than none of the year lol. And I like having my whole day to decompress and get ready for evening work shifts, obviously that will change to a 9-5 schedule once I'm certified though.

In general I've always felt getting tipped much more than minimum wage for 4-6 hour shifts and having some of it not taxed, is way better than getting $9-$12 per hour for 8-10 hour shifts and still getting taxed your ass off haha. I still make more and get a higher tax return than most working class jobs in far less hours.

Especially since companies still push you to upsell things even if you aren't earning commission. Fuck that, I better be greatly improving my income if you want me to have an incentive to upsell anything, because no one likes being pushy. That's extra work and sacrifice and extra anxiety / rejection so I better be getting paid extra.

In general earning a commission is more motivating and higher pay than earning a base hourly. The company steals ALL your extra productivity and profit if you aren't being paid directly based on customer purchases.

One time i quit restaurants to be an assistant manager at Gamestop. I felt like Gamestop was my whole life and i legitimately never had enough money to where I could responsibly spend it. Getting $200 in taxes taken out of your $900 paycheck when your rent is $750 is stressful as fuck, especially when you're at work ALL the time. I was miserable and didn't even have the money to cheer myself up.

That job also watched me with a camera when I was alone in the store, came with a lot of very tedious responsibilities, made me work overtime in holiday season, and required me to wake up early a lot. It also didnt' matter how well i sold games or ran the store, I still was only getting a $0.50 cent pay raise every 6 months and no bonuses. Never again will I put up with more stress for less money. It's gonna be strictly restaurants until I have a professional skill.
