North Georgia is alright, cute mountain towns (though NC is a lot better for this). South Georgia sucks. The coast has some cute swamp towns but the beaches are far / inaccessible and inland South Georgia is just the worst.

Atlanta though, is a top 10, prime cultural / economic city in the US. And I am ecstatic to live there next month.

    Birmingham or bust

Really a lot of these southeast states have one good city and that’s it. Hence why Florida >

I can’t name one city I want to go to in MS.

In SC, Charleston is cool but that’s really more of a large town than a “city”. I went to Greenville trying to give it a chance, and was real disappointed, literally just one bougie / overpriced strip of shops and traffic and not much else. Columbia is bland and cookie cutter / suburban as hell.

I’m going to be honest when I say a place could 100% rule like with what to do there and all that but if they have backwards laws and republican control it’s a big nope from me.

The Villages is literally the worst part about Florida. I mean, there's still plenty of Florida rednecks but it's the old folks in the Villages that have really carried the state red.

This is fair. It just sucks that all the more reasonable political states are either 3x as expensive or in SUPER COLD climates. That makes those places impossible for me hahaha

Florida is actually slowly turning blue though. Tallahassee is a strong voice here and activism is starting to change Jax’s political status quo.

What really sucks about Florida is it’s hotter than hell, no one makes good money while insurance & damages can be expensive, and mass transit doesn’t exist

As a FL resident those are the things that really suck. And yeah there’s racists and a lot of sexism and shit.

    Gainesville FTW.

But yeah. I moved up to Boston after college. Been here for 5 years now and it's definitely awesome being in a blue state, but I'm still not used to the winters and rent is atrocious.

@DarkHotline, I didn't love High Life and I didn't hate it. but to tbh that's kind of how I feel about all of the Claire Denis films I've seen. it's definitely worth your time tho. I'll personally take any opportunity I can to look at Mia Goth because I find her absolutely gorgeous, and Andre 3000 is in it, and he's pretty good too

    Georgia sucks dog shit

everyone is a shitty driver here and our roads should be repaved. public transport fucking sucks in large part bc of racist yuppies who think extending Marta will help black people penetrate the barrier erected around their suburban lives. rural Georgia is mostly just dead end towns with like haphazardly protected nature (bc there's always the possibility that someone will buy it gotta love urban sprawl babyyyyy) and an comically absurd amount of Confederate flags. there's like two decent planned parenthoods in the state, maybe. this state has the stupidest fucking alcohol laws (by county) and until a few years ago you couldn't buy booze on Sunday unless you were at a bar or smth. all the white people look and act the exact same and it's exhausting to talk to them when their whole personality is southern. no one in the suburbs is from Georgia really but the people who are will live and die in these towns and that horrifies me. college football is god here and I simply have no interest in it. the weather is different by the day it might be 80 and sunny one day and 40 and hailing the next or some shit. you can't walk around Atlanta without walking on a chicken bone. parking is way too expensive there. that city feels borderline unlivable to me bc it's always siphoning my fucking money but the towns just outside like decatur are relatively fun to be in. idk I guess I like waffle house that's p tight there are maybe more wahos than churches and there are a lot of fucking churches.

Yeah KC has it's neat little districts. My old bosses have told me it's gotten even better in the crossroads districts for art and breweries so i am actually sort of excited to visit again maybe in july or october.

that's where i'll be staying! i've started scoping out places within walking distance of my hotel and there seems to be a decent amount of things to check out

Avondale and Five Points South have a lot of cool stuff. SAW’s soul kitchen in Avondale is great for BBQ & soul food sides (it’s more of the vinegar based style though so not sure if you’d like it).

I also really like just driving around Mountain Brook, gorgeous little town on / behind a mountain that borders Birmingham. There’s spots near Altamont Park (especially on Cliff Road) that overlook the entire city from 1200 feet up. I try to park somewhere that isn’t in front of someone’s house and enjoy the view.

i'll be flying in and without a car since there's a shuttle that goes directly from the airport to the hotel and back so it'll be whatever's within walking distance and maybe an uber or two. I gotta find the vegan places and breweries first
