I’m just glad I don’t have to watch them dribble the clock to 5 seconds and chuck up a shot

A small part of me wants the Warriors to win it all without KD.

I thought all the postgame answers by the warriors framed the win in a way that wouldn’t step on KDs ego.

They're responding to what they know is going to happen and is already happening. The online chatter gonna start with the "they're better without KD" stuff.

I don't necessarily think that's true either. A better statement would be "the style they play without KD is better", but that's a style that KD can fit into. I mean, it's one of the reasons he joined the Warriors in the first place. He knew he could be a cog in that machine. It's just they get lazy, pass him the ball and tell him to get buckets. It's a mindset thing with the Warriors. I don't think it's KD's fault. Everyone just has to agree to play with the style they know is the most effective. If that means KD is only dropping 21 points a game, so be it.

As a newbie, I need someone to explain the giddiness here - the Rockets were the number 4 team in the west. They’ve got one great player with no record of playoff success, one X factor guy in Eric Gordon, an aging and fragile point guard, a bunch of role players, and a cheap-ass front office. They lost their two best defenders after last season, and were playing the same team that they couldn’t beat with a better lineup. Sure, KD was out during the last game+5minutes of the one before or whatever and that created an opening, but also clearly a lot of fans think the Warriors play better as a team without him. I think the Warriors are beatable (esp. if they go up against the Bucks in the finals) but it’s not like they aren’t still in the best-team-of-the-decade phase. Who actually thought the Rockets were winning this series?

I definitely get not liking the Rockets playing style (i personally can’t stand MDA and think he needs to be gone), but i think when they started the season nobody outside of Houston fans seriously expected them to knock off the Warriors. I’m just not sure I understand, having only been watching the past couple seasons, why there’s such a disdain for this team that people are experiencing schadenfreude over the fact that they lost a series that we all knew they were always going to lose?

I’d stop well shy of saying i like the Rockets lol I like Harden, but as I’ve said before, being a fan of his reminds me of being a Ken Griffey Jr fan when I was a kid.

Also I’m two years into following the league again and i haven’t found a team i root for. I’m in Cincinnati, so the closest teams are the Pacers and the Cavs, but I’m not sold on either of them. So far, I’m enjoying following certain players over any given franchise.

I think people would happily clown either team for losing, for the record. I think most of the disdain for the Rockets stems from Harden’s play, who is probably my least favorite superstar to watch. I respect that he’s very good at what he does, but tons of iso and drawing fouls is not that fun to watch. And like you said, everyone felt the Warriors were finally looking vulnerable, and they couldn’t force the game 7. Also CP3 has been one of the league’s most unlikable players for YEARS lol

Also I feel you on your fandom note. I’m from Dayton and I have a casual relationship with the Cavs. Growing up Lebron as my favorite player, and the games are on TV a lot. But I’ve always felt my NBA fandom at large was stronger than my connection with the Cavs

That was probably a lot of word vomit because I just woke up but basically both of these teams are unlikable and whoever would have lost would have gotten the jokes lol

I don’t see the Warriors losing more than 2 games in the course of the next two series as they cruise to their third straight championship.
