Agreed that the production here far outshines what we heard on California. At least, I much prefer this.

Oh that’s it they’re not punk anymore. Sell outs

  6. That's fair for sure - especially that outro. This song just rules in general. Probably my favorite lead single SINCE Feeling This.

IDK but the first 7 or so seconds reminded me of TOO TIME which I was surprised no one brought up here. Obviously I am here for that.

I kinda thought about this too but Jason's point is true, too. Gotta think bigger picture - own the week, not just the day. They're doing just that.

    Yeah, later. See you around!

I am (just about) caught up. I love the song. Can't wait for more. STOKED I got good seats for the LA show. Bummer the Raccoon didn't want to be there. RACCOON. IS. OUT.

I have an inside joke with my girlfriend where whenever a song comes up that is using autotune as a clear artistic effect I just scream “oh my god! They’re using auto tune! They can’t sing!”

  8. This is the guy that did the cover art if anyone is curious.

I would be super into that art as the art, it's great. Into the aesthetic for sure.

I get those comments in relation to Neighborhoods, that was a huge change for Blink but I felt like Dogs eating dogs got them back on track, it kills me that we never got anything after that.

  12. see this is the type of music Tom wishes he could make with AvA

  13. this comment may be weird but it's funny how music is cyclical and I don't mean this in a bad way but you can definitely feel the influence Alex and All Time Low has had on blink in recent years which is awesome considering how influential blink was to ATL growing up.

  14. That's my least favorite Blink-182 material since Buddha. I hardly ever go back to listen to any of it.

Those songs feel so lifeless now, so clearly forced and trying to capture something with three people wanting to go in different directions and no one to pull it together or give it shape.

Idk, this also doesn't feel very poppy to me. I hate when rock bands try to put "pop" into their music, because 90% percent of the time they just end up caricaturizing what pop music is. Like if you listen to modern pop hits like 'thank u, next' or Halsey's 'Colors' you hear really interesting melodies and huge sounds. Most rock acts just oversimplify, remove instrumentations, and add annoying melodies while trying to be "catchy" which isn't pop at all.

Obviously, not all bands do this, Fall Out Boy's "Alone Together" is an example of a band using pop to EXPAND their sound, and still use rock elements, but pushing out of their comfort zone to create more emotional texture. Sleeping With Sirens' "Legends" is an example of a band letting pop LIMIT their sound, by just sticking to basic synth sounds, no instrumental complexitity, and repetetive and predictable melodies that are a shallow attempt at catchiness.

I'm still giving this song a chance, but it sounds more similar to the latter to me.

"I love the first two minutes of Stars..."

(Stars is maybe my favorite song of all time)

  18. You know what's a really big modern pop hit? That "High Hopes" song.

You know who also co-wrote that?

Heh. I think it's plenty "poppy."

  19. Oh, I was also surprised no one has mentioned Mark's bass lines on this. He REALLY shined on CA, Feldy (i know i know) would GUSH about how great of a bassist Mark is, and then he continues to crush here. He really came up with something creative for the chorus here! I think it's far more indicative of how he plays live. Even Matt's guitar tones here match his live tones more than anything on CA.

I don't know about that. Tom wants to make world changing life altering anthemic soundscapes(!) not 3 minute pop songs. I've always said Kings and Queens by 30 Seconds to Mars is what Tom wishes AVA sounded like.

  22. I'm glad some/most people finally got over that. During the last 1975 album cycle I was just thinking what the comments would have looked like if that came out in 2008 instead. :cringe: No one woulda given it a chance.

  23. This is low-key a brutal burn.
