The problem is 100% production for me lol. Dude can write some fantastic songs and get some cool stuff out of people. Theres no doubt about that. It's the tones that get to me.

My friend has a Kemper amp. The same one Feldy uses/used around CA era for many other bands. My friend purchased Feldy's tone bundle just to see whats all on it and it sounds pretty bad compared to other digital bundles available. The digital amp stuff is actually really cool and has amazing sounds on it, but per my friend who uses one, it can take a long time navigating and finding what works/sounds best. Obviously its personal preference, but just comparing Feldy's bundle tones to other producer bundles within the same general genre, its almost night and day. It'll be nice to see what he's improved on from that standpoint. Then again, bands he works with must like it if they're cool with how everything turns out. Again, personal preference.

  4. I never thought about them potentially selling an artist's presets. if there is a mark hoppus bass tone setting for purchase that's legit what he uses, i would 100% purchase the FUCK out of a kemper.

  5. I still don’t know what people mean when they say it “sounds bad” ... it sounds a certain way, sure, but I don’t get the classification of “bad”.

It doesn’t sound how they want it to sound. That’s all it means

  7. While looking to see if I could find info about a Hoppus Kemper profile, I found this article I remember skimming when CA came out. It's interesting to read it now being further removed from that record. They really worked so hard on it Inside Track: Blink 182 - California |

“Though we always record the bass through the Kemper, I tend to ditch that and go for the DI track, because I love how it sounds. I then use that as a starting point to tweak the sound from. I have many plug-ins on the bass, eight in total! The first is the stock Pro Tools EQ, boosting 5dB at 80Hz. I always boost the bass guitar at either 60Hz or 80Hz, depending on whether I want the low end to be controlled by the kick or the bass. In this case it was the latter. It’s a trick I picked up from metal mixers. Then there’s a Trim to bring the level down a bit, which had gotten too hot, and a Waves API 550B, which boosts 4dB at three frequencies — 150Hz, 1.5kHz, 2.5kHz — and 5dB at 50Hz. It’s doing some extreme EQ to hype up the bass.

Next is the Little Labs Voice Of God, boosting a little low end. It’s not crucial to the sound, but the following plug-in, the SansAmp, is. From there the signal goes through the UAD Harrison EQ, on a setting I use every time, tightening up the mid-range and filtering the high end. It sounds great in conjunction with the SansAmp. Then there’s the Waves MV2. I’m not sure what it does, but using the two knobs, you can make the bass sound much better.

Finally there’s the Waves Jack Joseph Puig plug-in, adding some 100Hz, because the bass needed to be able to cut through on small speakers a bit more. This is again something I learned from Chris Lord-Alge. Tracks like these don’t need big bass. The song is fast and I did not want a big, subby mess. The bass most of all needs to translate well on small speakers.”
I actually do kinda find that CA is missing a little "oomph" on the low end but this is a rad cheat sheet. the whole article is, really.

I’m fine with Feldy’s production on most of the records he works on.

I’m honestly not sure if this is just me, but some of the guitars on California actually hurt my ears a little bit with how much the higher frequencies are pushed. I’m not really too familiar with his other projects outside of 311 (which didn’t have distortion other than one song) to really form an opinion on his overall style though.

  10. sounds like pop-punk to me

Reminds me of the first time I heard Neal Avron and how rubbery he sounded, now, those older albums sound dry compared to what we can do now, but I associate that sound with modern pop-punk almost exclusively. :shrug2:

Feldy's production on The Used and SOTY debut albums are iconic to that era. He'll always have my respect.

New art is really cool, tomorrow's going to be a good day. Feels like I've been waiting 84 years for this single.

Re-listening to Cali DLX. Completely forgot how much better this album is compared to OG Cali.

Just finished Good Old Days and i'm completely down with how cheesey and poppy this is. The ending with the three part harmonies is some of Matt and Mark's best stuff.

Bad might not be the word but "not as good" as old albums might be more accurate. It's hard to articulate but to me some of it just sounds a little too robotic and precise. Like it's not even people playing it's just totally computerised. Obviously TOYPAJ and Enema were also altered to high heaven and sound "glossy" or whatever but it actually sounds like humans played it. Maybe it's just my imagination haha.

They did during the Pop Disaster Tour. They had a list of songs on their web site and said pick 3.

  17. i wonder what I picked. If I had to guess, I picked Anthem II, Carousel, and some Cheshire Cat song to be edgy. Maybe even Party Song, actually...

Do you remember if it was their entire discography listed?

  18. Which ones do you think the internet would pick they haven't rotated in? Looking at their top played songs on Spotify and Apple Music ... it's basically their setlist.

Honestly at this point in blink’s career I’m more interested in hearing their new stuff live. So if the only older tracks their played where their singles and we got more songs from California, DXL and the new album I would be fine with it.

Maybe it’s because I have so many bootleg live shows that I can always go back and listen to and hear a particular song.

Hmmm I think it was definitely all of Enema and TOYPAJ. But there was definitely their more popular Cheshire Cat and Dude Ranch songs listed as I seem to remember picking Wasting Time. But I doubt it was their whole catalog at the time.
