Correct, I guess I meant more so from the Sandler era.

Yeah I can’t believe at least Spade wasn’t there also.

I wish they had replaced the Barflys sketch with that Chad sketch. Barflys is always so lame and lazy, the Chad sketches are always at least entertainingly weird and Pete seems to have no problem coming up with funny scenarios for Chad to wind up in.

I wonder if part of it is with Farley gone reliving that era is kinda painful for him, it's different just letting David Spade and Rob Schneider be in all his movies for eternity but doing the actual sketches would be different

I wonder if Rob Schneider or David Spade were asked to be back. And were they (and Sandler/Rock) actually 'fired' 'at the same time' (same season?) ? Did NBC just not renew their contracts, and move on?

It looks like CHris Farley/Adam Sandler were 1990-1995. David Spade 90-96?

I didn't think there was any chance they would do any of the sketches that Farley was involved with, I just figured Spade was a lock to walk in during the monologue like Chris Rock did, considering Sandler and Spade were and remain so close

Spade was asked to stick around for a season to help the new cast transition

Reading the wiki on them from like 94-96, it seems like a disaster!

I remember them from the early 90s with Spade, Dennis Miller, Adam Sandler, Nealan, Farley, etc....

And I barely remember once they left (sure, will Farrell, Sheri Oteri, and Molly Shannon were funny - but they werent the other cast)

Reading more and more.... Id have to think hard about where I was for watching it in the early 90s (or up to 95).

Got married in 95, but was working at a movie theater perhaps in 93.... come home sat night and watch it then...

The sketches were so funny (and when Farley would make Spade laugh on camera) - (BTW - when Pete Davidson cracks up laughing is that legit, or just his character....)

Anyhow the sketches from the sandler era shows were just wonderful to me.... I grew up with them.

1990 through like 2010 was mostly very good for this show. The problem with the show now is entirely to do with the writing. These cast members are all very funny and talented performers (not including Jost and Che) but the material they're given week after week is whack as hell. And whenever something good does break through, it comes from the Jost somehow deciding to allow something weird and unique to make it to air.

It's no coincidence that the season where Jost was removed as head writer was the best season the show has had in years. And then when they left and Jost was reinstalled it all went to hell again.

Season 20 (94-95) was one of the absolute worst in terms of quality of sketches. They fell back on a lot of gross-out humor

Im reading blogs of stories of people like me (who think 90-95 was wicked awesome and the rest of the years just suck)

There were misses, those years, as well, but boy - those hits just stay with me... you mention a sketch they were in (any with Spade, Sandler et al....) and Im sure I (or those in my age bracket that were infatuated with the show then) could ramble off the next lines...

Yea, the early 90s were my entry point (the 1993 episode of Emilio Estevez hosting was the first one I saw) and then Comedy Central would run the 60-minute version of those episodes and that's how I got into them since I was a tad young to be staying up late.

I was into it a little in the late 80s.... Im think Eddie Murphy was leaving, but Im thinking Dana Carvey, Martin Short, Jon Lovitz, Dennis Miller, Jan Hooks, Victoria Jackson... Them... they got me into it, but the 90s dragged me into the staying up late for the show.... and the musical guests were always great!

I had to look it up - terrific bands.... terrific. In 91 they had nirvana, pearl jam, and RHCP. Opening Show had Michael Jordan and Public Enemy.

I started with season 35, Will Forte's last season, and every episode had something I HATED and there's still a noticeable decline in quality since then

The shows Ive watched this year:

Unfortunately, I dislike both guys on the news (I LOVED Dennis Miller).
I dislike Pete Davidson, but I dislike him less now.... Hes growing on me, I think... weirdly.
I like Kate Mckinnon politically, drunk, and when she 1) Cannot keep a straight face, and 2) WHen shes trying to get someone else to laugh....
My daughter likes Kyle Mooney and Beck (I like Kyle because he's of my tribe - lol)
Cicely and Kenan are good too.

But I don't have that 'Wow' factor that makes me stay up and watch,

I've been watching since the mid 90s (The Ferrell/Kattan/Oteri/Meadows era). If I had a dollar every time I read "Why is SNL still on?" and that some random episode was "The best episode in years!" I would be a very, very rich man.

This season has been rougher than others and I think a lot of that rests on Jost and Che as head writers. The cast is as talented as any other that they've had, but they frequently don't know how to utilize them.

Like wrestling, which I've probably watched as long as SNL, I'm interested to see how it will operate when its creator retires or passes away. I feel like a changing of the guard is desperately needed.
