It’s Friday night let’s lose our minds
    In a downward spiral
    Here we go
    Because we got no control

I think that's the Bad Religion reference. I'll pretend downward spiral is a NIN reference. Haha.

This album actually sounds that they regressed to the old sound from 15-17 years ago, just not as good. I don't care, in fact, I understand that they wanted to make a fun pop-punk record and that's totally cool, I welcomed it, I even said I hope that there's songs like Roller Coaster and Every Time I Look For You, I just think, and it's not a fact, that the execution wasn't as good as I expected. That's it. I still look forward to seeing what they do next, these songs just don't do for me what other blink albums have, but going into that would be repeating the forum conversation from a few days ago. Bottom line, I like mature/dark and poppy fun blink, shit I'll take anything, I just don't think these songs are as good. And with this album, I definitely don't think they just wanted to write songs that they personally enjoyed. They clearly wanted this album to do very well and have hits and be successful, they had a mission and obviously accomplished it, but it definitely wasn't only approached as a "let's make a record we believe in and who cares if people like it or not". They wanted this comeback to be big, which isn't bad, I'm not judging, but I feel that probably more than ever there was immense pressure to make a monetarily successful album.

  6. As an unabashed pop music fan ... I almost want to make a counter argument: getting more pop is a progression, not a regression. Writing good pop songs is harder than writing mediocre rock songs.

  7. I know for a fact, I've actually had this conversation with Mark, they wanted every album they've ever written to be a huge hit and a monetarily successful album. Just gonna throw that out there.

Woohoo I can now sleep at night.

Any opinions on whether Blink could beat RHCP in sales? I'm thinking they'll be close but Blink could overtake them. It's interesting since both band's last albums came out in 2011.

That's a good point. I guess I didn't mean regress in quality, just meant going back to a sound even older than 2003

  10. Haha. Hover over it with the mouse to get a little pop-up!

I haven't looked at projections yet. I'll see if anyone will tell me pre-order numbers for RHCP. I know Blink's were huge. Streaming will play a big role with that too. I think it's in play. I wanna see them open big.

At the very least a higher debut than Neighborhoods would be a great fuck you to all the Tom-bots.

  12. 151,000 first week. That's gonna be tough I think ... but this single's done a lot better, the SPS could make that possible.

The Chili Peppers, however, debut at #1 on the Album Sales Chart with 106k for The Getaway.

They're gonna see a big drop next week. Drake will be the album they'll have to beat for #1.

You obviously know this shit better than most of us, and I'd like to hear your opinion. Do you think this album could catapult them again in the way say, Green Day's "American Idiot" did for that band? I keep doubting this album, and I keep being wrong about it haha.

I'm a big Drake fan but I don't get how Views of all albums is being this hard to dethrone.

  16. Different period of time, different radio climate. So I don't think it's going to take them to that same stratosphere where Green Day could basically claim they were the biggest rock band in American for two distinct periods of time. One could argue Fall Out Boy saw a similar resurgence, but, I think that FOB and Panic!'s current success is far more likely the model we should look at to see what a similar Blink "renaissance" would look like. This tour is a good indicator. If the singles continue to do well, they keep getting more TV appearances (they're playing Good Morning American on Friday), and if they're able to push that momentum forward ... I think that it is absolutely possible they see a similar trajectory and pick up a bunch of new fans that have this as their favorite album. Crossing that valley would put them in rarified air and avoid the legacy act stigma.

So, while I don't expect top of the world ascension, I do think revival, fan base growth, and resurgence are all very much in the cards.

The worst Drake album besides maybe Thank Me Later. Didn't even come close to matching the hype.

I've never had Spotify, I may have to finally get it so I can just use that to stream the shit out of the album even though I'll own it. Gonna do my part to get them that big first week lol.

  24. I've got like the idea of an actual article/review or whatever about this album. I can't decide if I have the meat of it though. I have two ways to take it, the Force Awakens analogy works so well, but is too easy and not personal enough. My journey to and back from California is better, but god damn that's gonna take a while to find the right voice.

  25. Anxious to read it either way
