Like take these quotes from USA Today and The Associated Press

"Your feelings about "Pokemon: Detective Pikachu" probably hinge on if you can tell a Squirtle from a Bulbasaur. No? Then you might not care one Jigglypuff."

"You've played Pokémon Go, right? Call this one Pokémon Don't Go."

    Like holy shit

I have mixed feelings, it's def a bummer when someone sees a movie that's clearly not for them and trashes it but also the answer isn't fuck critics either

also I'm a Pokemon novice so if I don't enjoy this movie because I haven't played hours of Pokemon I don't know whose fault is it, like I'm sure I'll enjoy this but if you can't enjoy the movie without already being a fan that's basically Bohemian Rhapsody haha

Henry you are the true test, you're a snob but a giant Pokemon fan, your answer will be the final say if this movie is legit or not. Good luck and godspeed.

Some Pokémon I didn't see in any of the other trailers in this one (the first one). Can't identify the dog and cat Pokémon in that first cafe scene, maybe someone else can.

I thought it was overly complicated, generic and melodramatic. Justice Smith and Reynolds do well. Every other character is a broad sketch.

It kind of has the feeling of like “Jurassic World” where it’s not particularly funny, thrilling, engaging, etc. It just exists for 90monutea. i have no connection to Pokémon and this does nothing to sell me on it.

I mostly agree, this was okay at best. It was kinda out of control with how many things were going on at once. I did grow up with the Pokemon anime/games and that only did so much for me. Biggest problem was how jarring it was a lot of the time. Tonal shifts across the board, I mean one moment Tim is reminiscing about loved ones, only to get wisecracks from Pikapool seconds later. Reynolds as Pikachu had its moments though. And I still like how Chris Geere got that blockbuster paycheck, so there's that too. For the most part, there's still no reason to run out to see this

None. This is a very self-contained film.

I also think that beyond if this movie is good or bad, I can already tell that the world they've created looks like more or less exactly what I'd want for this a movies/shows set in it going forward, and I'm sure it'll pave the way for even better films to come.

The effects (minus Mewtew, who sometimes looks like the Eiffel 65 alien) and the environments are some of better things the movie does. A better script and director would totally make this a more enjoyable movie.

Whether this is good or not, it still amazes me that after years of Pokemon being like the biggest franchise and tons of games, the game that leads to a movie finally being made was the game that most people don’t even know exists lol.

Anyone who is a big Mewtwo fan (me) will enjoy this. This movie is basically a good foundation to improve on. The first live action film is out of the way and the weaknesses and strengths to what a Pokémon movie can have are notified. Hopefully Legendary pictures responds appropriately.
