I'll be shocked if Bronn touches Tyrion, Tyrion has actual respect for Bronn and would give him his castle, wife, and gold once and for all. Cersei is broke and has nothing but sellswords and enemies. Bronn just wants to stay alive

And she’s also the type to give someone something and then kill them after they have done what she wants and take it back

  3. The more I think about it the more the theory that the Golden Company are Iron Bank sleeper agents makes sense. Cersei's basically hired them on credit right? The iron bank would probably rather deal with a Targ anyway.

Didn’t she pay back her debts with the Highgarden money?

yeah the debt has been repaid. whether the Highgarden money was all of the debt, i don't know. but they mention it safely making it to King's Landing

the Iron Bank is only in it for their own betterment, though. there's a few angles they could take to motivate their turning on Cersei.

I don't know that the Highgarden money was able to pay back all of the debt that the crown owes the Iron Bank. They were already millions of gold dragons in debt at the beginning of the series and its only gotten worse since then. I could be misremembering, but wasn't it just that the Highgarden money was almost like an initial lump payment to show that the crown could still be relied upon to pay the rest? Not that it completely wiped the ledger clean?

But yeah even if the debt was completely repaid, the Iron Bank might rather deal with Daenerys than with Cersei, especially considering as far as they know (and knew at the time they sent the Golden Company to King's Landing) Daenerys has an enormous Eastern army of Dothraki and Unsullied plus three dragons.

Wondering if Cersei has a part in wounding/killing Brienne, which finally pushes Jaime over the edge

I feel like after Cersei ended up being right about going to the Winchester, grabbing and pint, and waiting for the whole NK thing to blow over she shouldn’t be taken down by some absolutely major twist involving the IB or something. It should still just be a personal failing that gets her in the end.

I’m also very confused about why Bronn still exists. There are a few characters who I assume have some role to play but also had very clear ways to exit a long time ago and haven’t done much since then.

I just had a vision of a terribly sad score kicking in as Jaime watches Brienne die somehow as a battle full of dragons rages around everyone, charges after Cersei and tackles her, is angry crying as he chokes her to death, and then dragonfire engulfs them both.

Would have no idea how that'd play out since Cersei wouldn't be anywhere close to the battlefield. I still think it ends up being she gets taken alive and demands a trial by combat.

Spinoff show set in Westeros about the random dudes who have to guard the large piles of money the families keep hidden somewhere in their castles

I've always been really curious about the money situation in Westeros. Like, we're told that the Tyrells and the Lannisters are both unimaginably wealthy, and that the crown had been borrowing from both of them for a long time before turning to the Iron Bank, but the actual scope of their fortunes must be absolutely absurd. To think the Lannisters and the Tyrells could have loaned the crown millions of gold dragons and still had enough left over to throw money around like it's nothing, doing things like bribing people and hiring sellswords and stuff like that, is crazy.

I actually HATED that the NK did that smirk but I couldn't articulate why. This article touched on it pretty well.

At first I tried to write it off as just something mysterious and unkowable that we will never and can never understand why he did - like making spiral designs out of severed limbs - but that didn't work for me. It is too specific and petty and human of a thing to do.

It's a great article. Also addresses a lot of my (and seemingly others') feelings on the Night King's story arc and how they botched a good opportunity for a fascinating and complex villain.

Following the narrative and thematic threads of the entire series, I fully expected/hoped this episode would go differently (as others have mentioned, focusing on each character's confrontation with "Death with a capital D" manifested). My favorite parts of the episode were Sansa and Tyrion in the crypt, Grey Worm's panic attack (that was one part of the episode I didn't mind feeling disoriented by the direction- it was terrifying and totally put me in his headspace), the Hound choosing to save Arya, Jon going after NK instead of saving Sam, and the shots of him crying afterward... I liked these moments not because I wanted them all to die but because they felt correct to the story.

I didn't mind the smirk while watching it for the first time, but that's almost positively because I couldn't see half the shit very well due to the darkness. I see screenshots now that are brightened and it does look pretty stupid, but the idea that he smirks doesn't bother me on its' own.

Otherwise, the article was pretty much on point.

I've seen people post screenshots that were legitimately just an all black screen - the only issues I had were some lagging with the stream during the part where the dragons were flying all around and banging into each other where things got sludgy and pixelated. The darkness wasn't a problem for us. That must have been insanely frustrating.

I do think just in general filmmakers should try to make sure the scene is never too dark to see what is going on.

I agree. I think the article also articulated what I kind of said earlier in this thread that they are just kind of relying on you to NOT overthink some of these things or look too closely. Which, okay, it makes things more enjoyable but also makes you suspend your disbelief a lot more to get things to work or make sense.

As they said, it seems like they are sacrificing some of the overarching themes and plotlines for these singular "shocking" or exciting moments. I'm also glad they pointed to Littlefinger's death as the prime example of this because that was probably my most criticized mishandling of an event/character of the entire show and was the point that made me much more critical of the show.

There is no way in hell that I will not eagerly watch these next three episodes - but a HUGE part of what drew me to the show just got wiped out in this last epsiode. The soap opera but deadly, petty human squabbling was never my favorite part of the show, more just a part I tolerated to get to enjoy the good stuff.

Smirk really didn't bother me that much. Slightly cheesy, sure. I feel like I sign up for stuff like that with any fantasy show or movie. He was once human, so he has memories of human expression and his face isn't frozen stiff. I think since he'd never been hit with dragonfire before, he was having a moment of realization he was more invincible than he thought. My own takeaway though, of course.
