There's a lot of successful artists who aren't good imo, so sales doesn't equal to quality for me. I love blink and I want them to do well, and I'd be happy to find out that what they're doing now will have the same impact on someone like they did for me back in the day, I just find it really hard to see these songs having the same effect. Idk, as many pop punk bands as there were in the early 00's, blink stood out for a reason, they were unique, this record seems to kind of blend in rather than stand out. I'll still support them no matter what I think of this reocrd. Being a tom fan, I have to say I didn't even thinking about him when i saw them this month. Matt seemed so happy to be part of this that I couldn't help but to feel so happy for him and to see blink as a whole having a ton of fun. I'm just happy that they're doing what they want.

  2. See you in 10 years and we can see what their legacy is. I think this album will gain them lots of new fans and their tours will continue to bring in young (and old) faces. I think I'm good at this game.

  3. I didn't say it equaled quality. I said it backed up my thoughts on reaction versus your small sample of friends. Big difference there in what I'm saying.

It's late, I'm tired , and there is no right or wrong answer.

I mean I hope you are right because that means we get a second shot at another record like untitled haha but I know the odds of that magic being reproduced are impossible. I think thats truly the issue at hand for me, they outdid themselves by creating their perfect album and now everything since 2003 has been disappointing.

I just have to learn to cope.

  7. I think the untitled album is pretty overrated in general. I get it, it's the first "mature rock album" a generation of kids ever experienced. So it means a lot to them. But, they do what they're great at as well as anyone ever has (melodic, catchy, pop rock music), their move into that realm (untitled) put them up against bands that just do that style of music better (including a band whose singer now plays with them). Hell, I'd argue Midtown outdid them a year later with FWYN in the pop-punk goes "mature" route. Untitled's a good album, but, like Deja Entendu, it is over indexed by fans because of what it led to for them in their musical journey. Blink's entire career is based on what they hit their fans with at the right time, and the emotions they create for their fans with their music. It's the idea, the image, the feeling. The music itself, is the vessel for that. That's why I'd bet on this album over the last one. And it's why I think it's going to be very successful.

I get the point you are trying to get across and I respect that. But agree to disagree here - blink's untitled album is a masterpiece. The songs themselves are written so well - everything is top notch. I'm not sure why this whole "blink isn't that great they just allow you to visit an emotion in a memory" theory you have come up with is clouding your judgement because all music does that.

On that note time to hit some Z's!

Yeah. You hit the nail on the head. That's why you see people who claim three to four albums by this band are the best. It's all about timing. The older crowd 30 and up will usually tell you it's Dude Ranch, Enema..., Takeoff... Depending on where in that range their age falls. While the early-mid twenties crowd will swear up and down Untitled is the one (I'm being general and understand not everyone falls in this category). I can still remember when Untitled came out how a ton of people claimed Untitled was just a Boxcar Racer album with the Blink name, the band lost everything that made them Blink, the songs were cashing in on the emo trend, songs of the moment, etc...

  10. It's funny that being just a tad older gives you perspective no one else remembers. It makes me think of all the times where I bet someone 5 years older than me could shine upon the things I miss. But, you're exactly right. In hindsight those comments are forgotten as "history" gets set. Memories fastened. And the legacy made by those still around to tell it years later. I'm lucky (?) enough to get to chronicle it ... and it's almost funny just how cyclic it is. But the key will be: can it reach new people. And if the reports from shows about the younger generations coming into this blink fandom are true ... then that's our answer ... we can flat out see the future.

After first listen, I'm totally surprised. I like the majority here, and even No Future sounds a bit better in context. A few immediate standouts of Cynical, She's Out of Her Mind, California.

Iam so happy for kids who will get this record as his first and it will hit them with Cynical opener just like TOYPAJ did hit me with Anthem prt2 many years ago.So much respect for this record

Second run through, still really enjoying it. "Los Angeles" is actually growing to be one of my favourites on here.

As someone who was never really a fan of blink back when they were around I absolutely agree with Jason about those older albums not being much different from this stuff and I also agree that the untitled isn't the experimental masterpiece some blink fans think it is but I do think it's a lot better than anything else blink has ever done. I think it's a really good album and I got into it way after I had heard much, much better music than that album.
