i am more excited for AVA than i thought i'd be.

 

Some radio station in Utah was straight up like, "the song isn't supposed to be released until tomorrow but I don't know much about this band other than tom delonje loves aliens and he's the estranged member of blink 182 so whatever here's the fucking song" (paraphrased). I'd give it a 7. It's really catchy, the lyrics seem to be a bit more personal (presumably about his split from Jenn), and is slightly better than what you'd expect from AVA in 2019. It's good, but not great. The drums though are insane thanks to Ilan.

 

Terrible quality

 

This actually sounds decent? I've never listened to an AVA album outside of The Dream Walker, despite many tries in the past. This might be the time to dive into their discography

Tom loves calling women "little" to fill some syllables. Pretty little girl. Little cinderella. Little rebel girl. All the way back to my little windmill actually! Calm down, dog.

 

That is not a good song. Lol.

 

For Tom Delonge's standards it isn't bad.

 

For Tom standards I though DW was good. This just seems pretty run of the mill.

 

Im just happy to hear his voice again.

However, AVA released music as soon as 2016. Felt like it was longer ago.

 

you gotta set some standards. I mean, standards were set with California, people shat on it. people claim Tom was the genius lyricist in blink. so there must be standards.

 

I don’t think this ever happened

 

I know what I'm getting with Tom and Mark for the most part when it comes to lyrics. I know they're probably gonna be rough. I found these too obvious. He picked the exact most likely word at the end of each rhyming pattern where I knew what was coming before it got there ... and then it's the "oh don't say heartbreak" ... "welp, yeah he did it."

They're rough, but fine. His vocal range when he tries to go lower still doesn't work all that well for me. Drums are good. Song's ok over all but nothing I'd consider special or hit potential.

 

Not the worst thing he's done. No desire to listen to it a 2nd time. I do not like those synths lol

 

Pretty fine song. Not sure what people expected from Tom at this point. Happy to have him back making music instead of writing about space.

Edit: aw it was fun sounding. To be honest I barely listened to the lyrics but it had a fun feeling to it.

 

It's almost like he has nicknames or inside jokes with his significant other and he uses them in his lyrics?!

 

Does it make you curious to check the album out or is it a pass?

I'll always check out Tom music at least once.
