Also, QB is probably the one place I agree with this take.

Like the Raiders taking Clelin Ferrell at 4 is insane, even if you dont think he'll be there at 24.

 

I agree with that for sure. Like, I don't HATE the Ferrell pick in terms of what player he could be for Oakland but there were just too many good players on the board to justify taking Ferrell at 4, that's just crazy.

 

Well that is certainly bad.

 

Gruden & Mayock are very old school. They took the most pure 4-3 defensive end on the board after Bosa. It was NOT a good value move at all, but like I said last night it was on brand and wasn't really a shock to me.

They really could've just taken Omenihu at 35 though and even that wouldn't have been as bad of a reach. So even from that perspective they didn't do the best thing.

 

For reference, Bortles had 6.2 AY/A last year and Keenan, Allen, Darnold, and Rosen were below that as well.

 

I also think that if they wanted Montez Sweat they were dumb for waiting till 27. They should've took him at 24, he was already a huge bargain there. Ain't nobody was gonna take fuckin Josh Jacobs before pick 27 lmao

Also Duke sucked. Watch the tape and you'll see that Jones is CONSTANTLY throwing with anticipation under pressure and still somehow being accurate. Dude never, ever had a clean pocket. He makes early decisions JUST as the play develops, and he is also fast enough to get away from pressure which is something Eli has never had.

He's not the strongest arm or the most elusive and that's why people hate the pick. From an athletic projection perspective, yeah teams would rather mold Murray or Haskins cause the raw talent is off the charts.

But in terms of being ready for the NFL, staying level headed under intense pressure, knowing the play and using your film study to anticipate your options, having proper mechanics and a consistent throwing motion, etc.... Jones was the safest pick at QB.

 

On the bright side, Duke has very pretty unis
