I think there will be boos, but also cheers. Definitely not going to be close to the farewell that Jeter got. Totally different stories.

My favorite thing about Derek Jeter is he gives his one night stands a gift basket.

If that was ARod the story would have blown about so much more. Sort of like that mirror picture.

    He got 3,000 hits...

How many players from the Jeter generation have amassed 3k hits? That's still a great accomplishment.

A-Rod is the better overall player though, that I agree with.

The assertion was that he'd just be remembered as a "good" player, not one of the best of his generation. That's nonsense. De-emphasize counting stats all you want, 3,000 hits makes you one of the greats.

Who cares? He was still one of the 100 greatest players ever to play the game by career WAR despite that. Very little of ARod's value is defensive either. A win's a win.

I guess it depends what you weigh you're idea of a "gear" player on

I think A Rod is the more physically gifted and skilled player, but Jeter's career is without a doubt better and he ain't no chump skill-wise either.

So yeah... I'd go with Jeter. And I'd say he is a great.

Always do the right thing. Supporter

Jeter is absolutely great but Craig Biggio has 3060 hits and he wasn't much of notable player post-2000. Pete Rose has 4200+ hits and while he's absolutely a great, it's not because of that number. He played until he was like 46 and was barely useful, if that, anytime after he turned 40.

I'd rather see players viewed as great for the concentration of their greatness, not the duration of their good-ness, if that makes sense. Mostly to justify my constant raving about Nomar Garciaparra.

A-Rod was a good defensive player in the early-mid 00's. Pretty bad after that though.

I mean there are guys in the Hall of Fame that are forgotten about players.

I just don't get the love for him. Also I hate this whole I'm retiring at the end of the year. It's almost narsasistic, these players know they are going to get these big days made out to them which seems to be the motivation.

Jeter is a great player in my eyes, but he was also overhyped b/c he was a career Yankee.

Of course. He definitely brought a lot of value with his glove in the early days. There was a time when A-Rod was looking like the best all around player in the league.

Im not sure ARod will get it but David Ortiz I'm almost positive will get somewhat similar treatment that Jeter got. Red Sox and possible Minnesota should do something for him.

No need for a team like the Astros to do a David Ortiz day which tends to happen in these situation.

  15. No way Jeter's career is "without a doubt" better. A-Rod beats him by 20 WAR and 20 dWAR. A-Rod is gonna pass Babe Ruth in home runs, I mean...

  16. wtf jeter has career .350 babip that's insane

I don't care because there are a lot of ways to be great. You're literally saying someone in the top 100 of player value in the history of the game wasn't great because he didn't accrue that value in one specific area.

I don't know how well I conveyed it initially that started this debate. I just feel like Jeter was vastly overrated, not that he was bad.

There's no arguing who has had the better career, but just because guy A is better, doesn't mean guy B isn't great by another standard.

Jeter is 6th on the all-time hits list. In a 100+ year old sport.

My original post was in response to someone saying he would only be remembered as good and not one of the best of his era. You were the one who quoted me to argue with the assertion. The hell are you even arguing against?
