The Phantom Menace could have been decent if

1) Gungan subplot removed entirely
2) Anakin was already a teenager fighting for the freedom of him and his mom when discovered by the Jedi
3) 3CPO was from Coruscant and not Anakin

One of my favorite SW podcasts, and the two hosts are the kindest around!

 

Not sure how I feel about him acknowledging the similarities, & then saying it's just 'cause "the hero's journey" or whatever.

Like, I really dug Force Awakens when it came out. I think it was a great way to relaunch this film franchise. The repeated structure doesn't bother me 'cause, while it's the boldest example thus far, that kinda thing has been baked into the DNA of Star Wars since, what, Return of the Jedi? To the point where some fans take it way too far into "ring theory" nonsense.

But, I think that, 3 & a half yrs later, we should be able to just acknowledge that it used the structure of A New Hope, & discuss the merits & potential shortcomings of that conscious narrative decision. Not pretend it isn't there, y'know?

So much love for this thread right now. Since the trailer dropped, Facebook and Instagram have been an echo chamber of butthurt dudes claiming they could make a better movie and saying Kathy, Kelly and Disney are the holy trinity of evil.

I even had a friend share the trailer on Facebook, with the status to match: "Gonna be shithouse." Like, why share it then dickhead?

I can't fucking wait for this movie. The trailer looks incredible, and I know the tears are gonna be fucking real during so many moments in this film. Seeing The Force Awakens for the first time was a beautiful experience, and I think this may top it emotion-wise, but we have months to speculate and get excited. So amped!

 

Chorus is the best place to talk about Star Wars. Or if you’re like me ramble on like an idiot. Join the fun!

I watched TFA and TLJ back-to-back for the first time yesterday and they both only get better. All annoyances I have with either of them are shrinking with each viewing to the point where I nearly don't even care about them. I can't wait for IX.

So we really want to see Kylo redeemed at this point? After killing Han and seriously attempting to kill Leia and Luke? Not to mention just tons of other random people.

Not that JJ can't pull it off, but it better be super earned. He's not a good dude at all.

 

No. Definitely do not want to see Kylo flip. I see him succumbing to his rage or his jealousy of Rey completely this movie

 

I don't want him redeemed, but Anakin was a super terrible person as well and he was able to be redeemed. Although his redemption was in his dying moments and Kylo's would presumably be while he's still living and going on to a full life.

 

There is a clip in the trailer that looks like Kylo is yeeting a Knight of Ren... so who knows man.
