Anyways, seeing multiple past Jedi wouldn't make me mad or anything, but the more I think about it... If all we got was Luke & Anakin, I'd be happy with that. I think they're the only ones with anything to contribute on a purely narrative perspective.

Allowing fan service via returning living cast members like Lando is cool 'cause I think it fits well with where Last Jedi left off. Like, I don't think the guy who played Wedge was interested in returning, but seeing him & the original Mon Mothma would be cool, even just in small background roles (if they're still alive; I don't really know all that extended continuity nonsense). I like the idea of the Crait showdown that inspired the broom kid also re-inspiring the old Rebel heroes who didn't wanna answer Leia's distress call in Last Jedi.

But, as much as I loved puppet Yoda in Last Jedi & think he genuinely added a lot to Luke's arc in the film, I don't think he, or Obi-Wan (as much as I wanna see Ewan do something new w/ the character someday), or especially Qui-Gon, have much to offer this film. I think both Rey & Kylo's stories have a lot to gain from a Luke Force ghost, & I've been pushing for Hayden as a Force ghost for a minute now, but the other characters... Best case scenario, they're innocent cameos that do their very brief fan service jobs w/out getting in the way. Worst case scenario, they're annoying distractions. Especially depending on what this whole deal is w/ the Emperor, which could be anything from thematically dope to absolutely awful.

Maybe I'm alone in that take, though. And, maybe I end up disagreeing w/ my past self come December. *shrug*

 

Wait is that the death star in the ocean? I’m just now noticing in the shot after rewatching the trailer.

 

So we get to see the planet under Endor. Kinda cool.

 

And, some other random thoughts:

I think the "chosen one" prophesy, Anakin's alleged virgin birth, the Darth Plagueis stuff Palpatine said, Rey's vision from the lightsaber, & Rey's background are all going to be touched on again & play into the larger narrative. And, also play into this "Rise of Skywalker" title.

I don't think what Last Jedi did w/ Rey is going to be undone per se. I think she really does come from nobody special. But, I also think that's gonna fit somehow in relation to that other stuff in, best case scenario (still don't know how much I trust Abrams & Terrio), a really cool & meaningful way. If anything, I think Anakin's background is what's gonna be challenged.

And, when the dust settles, for some reason, I picture Rey deciding to adopt the last name "Skywalker."

 

In Finn's interview with Carboni: "and because of you guys (the fans) if they ever ask me to come back as Finn I bloody frickin will."

Man would I love a series of what happens to Finn after episode 9. Do it Lucasfilm you wont.

What if The First Order and The Resistance have to battle Palpatine and can't beat him and they're all losing hope and then Anakin emerges!? I'd freak out.

Why would Anakin emerge?

 

Why would you even bring him back? His entire arc ended in ROTJ, what else is there for him to do?

 

I'm drunk right now and do not take responsibility for that last thought. I'm actually at @Jason Jason on the walking out part now. I really hate alcohol sometimes.

 

Yeah I feel like that would be the worst route to take this story next to having it end with some kid waking up and realizing it was all a dream...

Why can’t I mourn Han Solo in peace

 

They should definitely stick with purely church culture satire. Some of it is really great and I enjoy being able to laugh at myself through some of it. The Facebook comments when they try to get political are even worse than the articles so I just try to avoid them at all cost.

 

I never got full closure and I need it. Leia never said much of anything about Han after he died and I feel like she would have a lot to say. The original three were so close and I feel like I’ll never know their true reactions to losing each other.

On a high note, seeing the new trio together right at the start of TROS will be great and I hope they stick together through the in and outs for most of the film.

I'm real excited for this. Love TFA and TLJ so much.

 

1. Definitely think Skywalker will be a ceremonial title/new word for Jedi and that’s how at the end she’ll become Rey Skywalker. Thrawn:Alliances introduced this idea and that entire book was just setting up other things

2. Palpatine returning can go either way for me depending on how it’s done, but I’m willing to put my faith in JJ/Kathleen Kennedy. I think it’s a shoe in now that we’re getting Force Ghost Anakin which I love.

3. I think the thing I’m most excited for is the sense of finality the Trailer has for both these characters and the Saga.

I also could watch Billy Dee, Oscar, and John talk for hours and still want more. Those three have so much personality it’s crazy.
