    yeah good okay Prestigious

Finn changed sooooo much in TLJ. He went from "everyone on this ship is gonna die so I'm outta here to find my friend" to "I'm willing to die for the cause for my friends"

Yeah like I always have laugh when people say Finn didn't have an arc in TLJ, because a lot of those same people are the ones who complain about Canto Bight, when Canto Bight is literally the place where Finn's arc really starts to develop and his character starts to change.

I always thought Finn’s arc in TLJ went along with the overall theme, as in leaving your past behind and moving forward to the future. He was pretty much a deserter until the end, when he finally realized he can’t just run away from his problems forever. I thought that was great.

I mean, the Canto Bight scene isn't really any good. No need to beat a dead horse, just wanted to respond that there are great reasons people don't like TLJ and it's not all hyperbolic and invalid. Carry on.

It's entirely appropriate to say "Finn's story in TLJ wasn't what I expected and didn't do anything for me" or "I wanted a more 'active' Luke and his story didn't do anything for me."

Subjective stuff like that is totally valid and we all do it.

But confusing your subjective belief for what is actually in the film is problematic.

Its like people complaining that there are no guitars in new FOB songs. There ARE guitars, you just don't like them. And that's fine!

As a big of TLJ, I think having the events occur over such a short period of time (and picking up immediately where TFA left off) was a mistake and I think the film suffered for it (both in how some narrative choices were forced to play out and in giving the film more of a TV episode feel).

He already went through that arc in the movie before though, wanting to run and leave everyone in that bar to joining the resistance to go rescue Rey with Han. He seemed 100% wasted to me ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

That wasn't his arc in the first one. He never really developed a connection to the cause in TFA, he developed a connection to Rey and Poe. Which is why he was ready to desert the Resistance at the beginning of TLJ.

    Is it "D-O" or "D-0"?

    This is very important

He wanted Rey to leave with him and when she rebuffed him, he went along with it. Hell, he only went with Han and Chewie to Starkiller just to save Rey.

They should replace the hologram for that upcoming tour with a D-0 model that just wheels around stage with his picture on it.

It has in a certain capacity in the show Rebels. I won't go into detail, because I don't want to spoil anything, but it's explored there. I will say it's done in a very unique way and was pretty well executed. You can get more on wookipedia if you don't want to watch the show. But I would recommend watching it. Some of the episodes are my favorite things Disney has done with the franchise.

That's another problem I have with TLJ lol, I feel like after everything he went through in TFA that it was weird to have him immediately try to abandon ship again. Instead of his character progressing, he just reset and did the same thing again basically. So gald JJ is back.

I'll have to read up on that sometime because even though I stick to the main movies only and no other canon, I worry about time travel paradox stuff being introduced into them.

    Thanks for the response!

I'm saying that this is the wrong interpretation of what was going on. His character development in the first one was unlearning his life as a number and becoming a person by forging personal connections with Rey and, to a lesser degree, Poe. Also he learned the courage to stand up to people formerly in authority over him no matter what the odds were. But he never developed a connection to the cause that the Resistance was fighting for. In TLJ, he learns and understands why the Resistance is a crusade worth joining, and that he has to be willing to sacrifice both his own desires and even his own life in order to help them accomplish their goals. It's two separate arcs developed across two separate films.

    ?

The last time we see Finn in TFA, he had just lied to the resistance ("I was a janitor I know how to turn off the force field or whatever") potentially undermining a crucial part of their plan (thereby risking a ridiculous amount of lives) just so that he could save Rey. He then gets injured in the process of defending her.

How exactly is him abandoning ship to chase Rey at the beginning of TLJ at all inconsistent with that? lol

I really do appreciate the responses, no sarcasm, even though I disagree mostly. I get what you are saying, both "arcs" just felt too similar to me. I know 100% that is me just wanting more like what I built up in my head pre release of the movie.

I actually am excited for Rian's off shoot trilogy. I didn't like what he did with most characters, but loved most other aspects of the movie.

Sidious' influence is already taking hold on this thread.

So no Kerri russell at all. Image or anything. No Dominic Monaghan. No Knights of Ren. We got that weird alien and D-O which I think confirms that one poster that leaked.
