Rookie years:

Chubb: 13 G - 192 ATT, 996 YDS 5.2 YPA, 8 TD; 20 REC, 149 YDS, 7.4 YPC, 2 TD, 0 FUM
Fournette: 13 G - 268 ATT, 1,040 YDS, 3.9 YPA, 9 TD; 36 REC, 302 YDS, 8.4 YPC 1 TD, 2 FUM

 

Well, not to take anything away from breaking a big run, but didn’t Chubb break a few long ones? On his smaller sample size I think that unfairly inflates this, a little bit

 

Eh so did Fournette. My argument is more so that Chubb wasn’t leaned on to carry the offense or looked at as the primary threat by opponents.

He was inserted in the gameplan in much more favorable situations. Lots of change of pace backs who aren’t even good starters like Chubb is get 4.6-5 YPC for this very reason

 

Which statline do you prefer?

Player A:
Year 1: 1040 yards rushing, 9 TD, 3.9 YPA, 302 rec yds, 1 TD
Y2: 439/5/3.3, 185/1

Player B:
Y1: 950/11/3.6, 367/1
Y2: 563/3/3.0, 316/1

Not saying Fournette is gonna be another Richardson for sure, but honestly that comparison is better than anything that’s been posted so far

 

There is no one stat alone in a vacuum to say "this player is good/bad" so you have to look at a lot of different stats, put them into context of surrounding coaches/players, and actually watch all the games.

I doubt anyone here has done that with him and all 31 other teams as well, so we can only really go off of our gut and using stats as something to point to.

All that being said, I'd take these players over Fournette if I'm not consider age, contract, etc... in alphabetical order:

Alvin Kamara
Christian McCaffrey
David Johnson
Ezekiel Elliott
Jordan Howard
Kareem Hunt
LeSean McCoy
Le'Veon Bell
Mark Ingram
Melvin Gordon
Todd Gurley

I'm sure there's one or two you could add/remove but I'm confident that these guys have been and would be better as of today than Fournette. Going forward with contracts, money spent, age, etc... is a different conversation though.

 

Hard NO to Ingram and Howard haha. I’ll take Fournette over them 20 times out of 20.

 

Also, yes, over his career LeSean McCoy was better. He DEFINITELY isnt now though.

Like Chubb is arguable. I was maybe too harsh to dismiss him like that. But definitely not those three guys haha

 

Howard’s best year is definitely better than Fournette’s best year, and Howard’s worst year is arguably comparable to Fournette’s best year

 

I mean, he’s been healthier and more available. But Fournette could run circles around him. Howard really doesn’t have a lot of wiggle, average vision, and lacks the power AND speed Fournette has.

Maybe Fournette has “average vision” and I understand drawing that conclusion from the stats, but based on his college career I seriously doubt that... and am much more convinced that his lack of efficiency so far has to do with the horrible OC we just fired, & the below average at best OL that I’m trying to fix with Jawaan Taylor

 

I could see Fournette over Howard, Ingram, or McCoy, but as of today, they're simply more reliable in an availability point of view. They've each played between 28 and 30 games over the last two years and Fournette is at 21.

I'd feel more comfortable picking one of them over Fournette as my #1 RB for this season right now, even if they're slightly behind him statistically.

 

This one honestly REALLY bugs me though, lol. I hate stats. They sometimes say things that aren’t realistically true but you also can’t dispute numbers without looking ignorant hahaha

Like this is why I watch film. If you look at stats Fournette is Richardson. Does anyone in this thread actually believe that though? Come on even the dissenters know Fournette is better than that scrub

 

I don't think anyone is saying that he's Richardson.

 

I know but that’s just why I always say stats can be very misleading haha. @whitenblue88 pointed out that their numbers are very close.

I'll take Sony Michel over Leonard Fournette since Sony Michel has won a ring every year he's been in the league.

Pulling this post back up to express how frustrating it is when you're looking at online revenue reports and a bug is causing AR/DR to not flow correctly and you have to figure out which item is in the incorrect place causing credits to NOT equal debits

 

Part of the fun is deconstructing things and putting them back together!

 

I enjoy the process of finding the issues once but not the process of explaining to our coders where the changes need to be made and trusting them to actually fix everything and correct the bugs for the future haha
