The crowd for Hurray for the Riff Raff looked distressingly small. But she sounded awesome. "Pal'ante" arranged for the band is extra amazing.

I haven't looked ahead to Saturday or Sunday, but The 1975, Janelle Monae and Kacey are all must-watch for me tonight.

Never heard of King Princess, but good lord is she annoying live and her vocals are awful. Which is a shame, because the songs sound like they might be promising on record?

 

The 1975, Janelle, and dvsn tonight. Tame Impala tomorrow, and Chvrches, Rico Nasty, and Ariana on Sunday.

khruangbin really rubs me the wrong way. a texas band with a thai name and two white people wearing black wigs/interpolating middle eastern rhythms seems offensive, but maybe i'm just looking for that shit these days

 

Interloping eastern rhythms isnt offensive at all, the wigs could be so I can see your problem their in regards to cultural appropriation, but playing music not native to you because you like it I see no qualm with if it's not done in a way to mock a culture. I sometime write rhythms and melodies influenced from other countries because that's what i'm feeling and don't like limiting myself to western scales, I have learned Tabla from East Indian Culture and a few Ragas, and I am exclusively European descent. I don't view it as offensive if music from other cultures speak to you and strike your interest and songwriting. That would be like saying George Harrison shouldnt have incorporated Indian music into his solo career and a few Beatles tracks because he is English.

Now the wigs could be in bad taste though if it's for a blatant cash grab, not overtly familiar with this bands image and music to speak on that. So you may be in the right to be irked by that.
