One thing that confuses me is that Bernie says that his medicare for all plan is just like Canada, but then says the only role for private insurance is basically for cosmetic surgery. He says medicare for all covers all basic services, which is true. From what I understand is that the Canada public system does not cover prescription drugs, vision, dental, medical supplies, mental health, unlike Bernie's plan. Canadians get this coverage from private insurance

But, also from what I have read each family in Canada pays about 9% of their income for healthcare each year. Bernie's plan would only be 4-5% of your income. Could someone with more knowledge on this explain how it makes sense the the US system would more comprehensively cover everyone than the Canadian system and also be significantly less in cost?

It can’t. This is why I’ve said Bernie’s plan really isn’t that great and definitely won’t pass.

As long as it gets us to a public option where everyone can get cheap/free insurance from the govt tho, I’m all for it
