  2. Is there any chance Dark Phoenix doesn't suck? I think I read somewhere that early previews didn't do too great. I really want it to not suck. I really enjoyed First Class and (the Rogue Cut of) Days of Future Past. With the MCU the only movie I haven't seen is Hulk, but as for X-Men, I haven't even seen Apocalypse yet--despite Sophie as Jean being a huge draw for me--or either of the Wolverine films outside of Logan, and I hardly even remember X1-3 because those were so long ago. Even though I haven't seen Apocalypse, I somehow feel really invested in these current iterations of the characters (McAvoy, Fassbender, Hoult, and JLaw). I'm excited for X-Men to join the MCU, yes, but it's still up in the air whether Marvel will keep these current actors. If this is the last time we'll see them in these roles, I hope Dark Phoenix is even half as good as everyone says the source material is so that they can go out with a bang.

If you watched any of the trailers, you've pretty much seen the movie already.

Based on test screenings and leaks I don’t think the film will be good. I know they’ve done a lot of reshoots so maybe it will be better. I’m just going to watch it with low expectations and maybe it won’t be as bad.

I'm still looking forward to seeing Dark Phoenix. *shrug*

I know I've said a lot of this elsewhere, but like... I thought Apocalypse was really bad. I thought First Class was well made but completely unengaging. In spite of loving Fassbender as Magneto, I just haven't cared about any X-Men film not directly tied to the original trilogy. But, those initial few films (yes, including that Last Stand mess) were my favorite comic book films throughout middle & high school. X2 is still in the top tier of comic book films, all these years later. So, no matter what, entering what is still more or less that same world one last time is going to be a special, nostalgic experience for me, no matter how good or bad the film is. As grossly inconsistent as Fox's Marvel work has been, this is a much bigger "end of an era" for me than Avengers: Endgame.

Plus, like, for all the warning signs, like details in trailers that don't look good & poor test screenings & Simon Kinberg, there is still a lot that does look good. The visuals have mostly looked great. Fassbender always rules. Looks like we're getting good Cyclops for the first time. Mystique dies early enough to not get in the way of better characters. Storm might get some dope action sequences. The uniforms look good to me, easily the best Fox has done outside of Deadpool (& I'm alright w/ them just being in a couple sequences in the first half of the film; this universe has worked better when less comic-book-y, so let 'em wear civilian clothes mostly & save the iconic individual costumes for the MCU). Score will be by Hans Zimmer.

So, yeah, bring it on. One last time. Whether it's surprisingly good, underappreciatedly good, or not-good-but-something-I-don't-mind-the-first-time-I-watch-it-in-theaters good.

This is what I've been assuming, & while all that dumb theorizing about a mutant post credits scene in Endgame or whatever has seemed so lame to me. They already have Black Widow, Doctor Strange 2, Black Panther 2, Guardians 3, Spider-Man 3, Eternals, & Shang-Chi to schedule out over the next fews years. Plus, probably Captain Marvel 2, & maybe something else Ant-Man/Wasp-related.

That being said, Marvel's grand plans or whatever have never been as rigid as people pretend. They added two Spider-Man films, added a second Ant-Man film, took away Inhumans, & moved dates around. They didn't know what they were doing w/ Captain Marvel until a little over two years ago. So, they certainly could change their minds.

I'd say that Fantastic Four will probably happen sooner than an X-Men film. And also, as I've suggested before, I could see individual X-Men popping up in other films' scripts where appropriate.

More than anything... I don't think Marvel wants to reboot their universe, & I do think they want to avoid the comic-book-y approach of killing & bringing back main characters for as long as they can (&, on that note, also resist recasting & making 4th solo films). On a long enough curve, that'll happen, but if they can keep making new franchises like Black Panther & Guardians land, they can totally go a full decade w/out any Iron Man or Captain America. So, trilogies surrounding the Uncanny X-Men, the Fantastic Four, & Wolverine (& also characters like Miles Morales & Kamala Khan, for that matter) are likely being kept in storage until needed. That way, they never have to scrape the bottom of the barrel w/out rebooting or recasting for a LONG time.

I'd much rather see villains and heroes from the FF in the MCU sooner than main characters from the X-Men

For sure. Give me a Fantastic Four film flavored by both Hickman & Waid, make Doom the antagonist of a Black Panther film, use Silver Surfer & Galactus anywhere, do something w/ the Future Foundation, play around w/ Annihilus... So much to tap into there.

I might be in the minority here, but the dark Phoenix saga has never really interested me compared to other classic x men storylines. I’m not excited for another take on it.

Been working through my full MCU rewatch. I need to rev it up a bit haha, I watched Thor yesterday, probably try and do CA: First Avenger and The Avengers today. gotta say even though they aren't super top tier, I enjoyed Incredible Hulk and Thor more than I expected I would. Iron Man 2 is a weird mess but there's plenty of solid stuff to be entertaining.

Also, as far as the FF entering the MCU, I've always kind of wanted to see them in the 60s and then have them get trapped in a space time thing that brings them to the modern era. just feel like the FF vibe is perfect for the 60s

So will Kate and the rest of the Young Avengers just be Disney+ characters or will it be a requirement to keep up with Disney+ in order to keep up with the MCU films?

and I feel like the first Mission: Impossible had a decent amount, but it felt very stylized. the way they feel in Thor just feel like the camera was crooked and they left it haha. it doesn't feel purposeful at all

I haven't seen a lot of Kenneth Branagh's work, but are dutch angles just his style? If not, maybe he was getting it out of his system in that movie. Kind of like JJ and lens flares.

MCU Hawkeye is a fundamentally different character from comics Hawkeye, & I like both versions (giving him a family worked great in AoU).

But, I still really want SOME of the Matt Fraction Hawkeye flavor in this. Like, give him Pizza Dog. And, have him say, "ok, this looks bad." Some of that series wouldn't work in the MCU, but tonal elements could, & should.

That Hawkeye series is all ive ever wanted out of Disney+ and it better have some basis on Fraction’s run!

This practically confirmed Clint will survive Endgame, but I never thought he was going to die anyways.

Of course, Clint is gonna deal all the damage to Thanos to weaken him for Howard's final blow. I heard Kevin Smith and Dave Willis came in to write the final scene so it leads into their show.

I'm working my way through all of these in "time order" right now -- currently watching Thor: Dark World for the first time, and it's a hot mess. Looks like it'll battle The Incredible Hulk for last on my list.

I don't know why, but I thought the Wanda/Vision show was rumored to be scrapped months ago. Did I imagine that?
