  1. I can honestly agree with this, people expecting too much from a pop punk band is like expecting too much from a burger at Burger King. As simple as the song is, it's fun to sing along and dance too. The big thing for me is Mark and Travis are enjoying making music again.

Most pop songs have terrible lyrics. I came across the lyrics to Taylor Swift's Bad Blood the other day (Yes I'm on the cutting edge of pop music clearly...).

I was thinking that you could be trusted
Did you have to ruin what was shiny?
    Now it's all rusted

I mean come the fuck on...

Still it has 900 million views on Youtube. Imagine how popular she'd be if she had good words!

  3. Kid on Reddit: I'm aware of the way Feldmann wanted them to write lyrics for this record but fuck me all the depth and interesting lyrics from blink over the years are just gone now.

Me: yeah, we need more of Tom's infinite wisdom and metaphors:

    "Gunshots the punks are rioting
    The stage is slowly crumbling
smash boards and try to stay alive,
A few drinks and a lot of broken lights"

Kid of Reddit: Well, that song was written after Tom stopped giving a fuck.

Me: oh, you're right. how's this poetry?

"Mom and dad they quite don't understand it,
all the kids they laugh as if they planned it
Why do girls wanna pierce their nose,
and walk around in torn pantyhose, oh yeah"

EDIT: If any of you have "Why do girls wanna pierce their nose and walk around in torn pantyhose, oh yeah" tattooed on your arm, I'm sorry if I offended you.

Tom peaked at "18 and a wicker basket". He will literally NEVER top that line

When I complained about the lyrics I didn't mean they ever had good lyrics, just a little more focused. With a theme that runs through the entire song. Give Me One Good Reason is VERY cringy and has terrible lyrics but Tom is singing about the same thing the whole time. These three new songs feel like a bunch of vague things that vaguely go together. Funnily enough the only new song that has a theme (that I've seen of the already released) is "Built This Pool".

  10. this is the only lyric video i have ever sought out to actually download, haha.

there's also another lyric video that came out within the last couple years that was pretty cool, but i can't for the life of me recall what band it was... i just remember it was basically a music video, but it had the lyrics along the bottom. i liked that one.

Guess this leaked? I'll wait until it's on Apple. Just heard "No Future," though," and I dig it - 2/2 for me. Love the addition of Skiba.

What's your point? The quality of the lyric video doesn't affect my opinion on the song.

  13. The album had to leak, if it didn't it will at any time.

  15. Blink are romanticized the same way a first love is. It's held up as impeachable and not looked at objectively ... then you get older and, with some time and perspective, you realize how that first crush was not the way you actually remembered it. It was just as full of flaws as all your relationships. Blink are that first crush for so many people, romanticized into something I think they never actually were, and when there's no new music to listen to it's easy to forget that because you can capture that feeling in your mind's eye. You can make believe you're still in love with the middle-school crush, or that new Blink-182 music will make you feel like you were 12 again, but that's not reality. So people get mad when the dreams in their heads aren't what they hear.

Here's part of what I wrote in the supporter forum about the new album, it's been a day or so, so I'll share it here too:

Blink-182 is a feeling more than a sound. It's an idea, a pick-me-up, a prickle down your skin ... more than it's ever been defined by one specific sound ... and while many will disagree with me on this ... this to me is as good as Blink can be. A catchy fun album that makes you forget time for 40 minutes and just enjoy your life. That lets you sit back and not let the shitty part of life get you down while you're between headphones. I spent the summer of my 9th grade year taking my little sister to swimming lessons. I sat on the bleachers every single day from 8am to 9am with my discman and a Blink-182 album. I was stupid, angsty, and having a tough time at home. Blink was an escape for me. A way to think about being a surfer/skater doing dumb things in the sunny California sun and being "cool" and just not giving a fuck about anything. It was an idea to me. The music was not like anything I was listening to before, but it was because of what it made me feel that I fell in love with it. The new album makes me not care about the music but enjoy the melody. I sing along. I laugh. I smile. I remember that life isn't something you need to take that seriously and it'll all be fine. It's an idea. It resonates with me in that way. I could pick it apart, that wouldn't be hard, it's not perfect, it's flawed (as all Blink albums are), but it's also captured something I don't think Blink have in a decade ... I want to listen to it on repeat. I want to sit in the sun, turn it up, and enjoy the moment. That's Blink at its best to me.

  16. the whole album hasn't leaked. just "no future" did today. it's on spotify and apple music now.

Oh ok, makes more sense -- thought people were discussing the album as a whole.

  19. The abuse those letters took by being stretched and flat out destroyed make me wanna rip my eyes out. That video offends me. Lyric videos suck.

You nailed it. Blink-182 is the soundtrack, NOT the movie.

  25. Reading Enema of the State's lyrics are downright painful. Truly awful stuff in there tbh.
