"Pet Sematary isn’t striving to be an easy communal crowdpleaser. Just like the source material, it’s a movie with a real thoughtful mean streak that’ll chill you to the bone, and ensure you remain sufficiently on edge well after it concludes." -- can.. not.. wait. got my Dolby Cinema ticket for tonight!

I'm listening to the ep covering Part 2 right now and they mention VHS box art and I was first introduced the series as a kid when my dad was friends with a guy who ran a video rental store so I would spend all my time studying the VHS boxes and felt like I knew the series before seeing them. Anyways, I googled search the VHS boxes and some of these foreign versions are bad ass

This was such a bizarre, meta episode in the post-Scream era

That episode is SO good. It’s hysterical, and does so much for the characters.

pet sematary was fine. i love slow burns but I think this one was way too slow for me.

i re-warched Starry eyes the day before to prepare too. still fun though.

  13. Reading excerpts from reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, I don't think Pet Sematary is for me. I did find it funny that a 2.5/4 review was rotten and a 2.5/5 review was fresh.

OH btw, Us was great. Maybe a bit flawed, sure, but I was completely on board.

Just got out of Pet Sematary.

5/10. First half was the first movie, second half was a bunch of bad dialogue, and twists that took away the weight of what was actually going on here. One scene was a terribly obvious green screen set up, and some other cgi work did nothing but made me laugh. Highly recommend the first take over this one.

:( my hopes had been steadily increasing recently for Per Sematary. I still think I’m going to do a double feature with that and Us on Tuesday. All day matinee, so I won’t be losing out on much if I end up disappointed with it too.

I enjoyed Pet Semetary. It made me feel the same way I felt reading the book: miserable (in a good way).

It was a slow burning story about death and how we deal with it. As a huge fan of the book I didn’t need anything more than what we got.

Pet Sematary is excellent. The girl who played Ellie was so good.

I thought I had read that this one was supposed to be a "closer" adaptation to King's book? Not even close. I didn't believe the original was gonna be outdone, but this getting all around better reviews is kinda insulting to King himself who did the screenplay for the first film. This just, wasn't a better take in my opinion. The original ending is much more unnerving and flows a lot better with the tone.

I had several issues if anyone cares for a Sunday read. I will spoiler tag them for those who haven't seen it yet.
-The first 40 minutes or so of this seems like the first movie redone, with some added flashbacks of Rachel's sad history with her sister and the local kids' animal funeral.
-Victor's dialogue wasn't nearly as creepy or important this time around. Probably my favorite part of the first movie.
-CGI is usually much better in 2019 than the few parts I caught that were glaringly bad, like the sliding truck, Church's burial, Ellie's super sonic speed tantrum, etc.
-Louis, being a doctor, should've shown more clear signs that he wasn't okay with Ellie's return, mentally or physically. The shock and PTSD would cause very different responses. Took it far too calmly and then bathed a dead body. She'd of come apart in water.
-The dead do not ask "am I dead?"
-Why didn't undead Ellie kill her dad the first night? She's possessed by a demon who's plan is to do this all along so...
-When Rachel returns, she does look shocked, but Louis's dialogue throughout this scene in trying to re-introduce them was laughably bad. So awkward, and then the mom just leaves to go process in another room. I get it, but this was not done well visually in the movie.
-Undead Ellie talking shit to her mom to show she's evil and then the mom giving a cliche "you're not my daughter" line got a huge eyeroll.
-It took Louis and Jud all night into the morning to get to the burial site for Church. 9 year old Ellie slowly dragged her mom's dead body there in all of about 5 minutes it seemed.

Things I did like: John Lithgow. And strangely Gage looked a lot like the 1989's film Gage.

Checked out Per Sematary last night. There were some issues for sure, but overall I enjoyed it. I liked how it almost tongue in cheek subverted your expectations of scenes of the last film. There were a few fun little Easter eggs in there too.
