If you go to your settings/preferences, it gives you a place to put your login.

 

I connected my spotify premium and now it's tracking what I play on my spotify. You have to have premium for it to work. I don't know about the last.fm desktop or mobile app.

regular last is fine. The only thing Last.fm does with premium is allow you to stream based on your library. They took that feature away four or five years ago.
