yeah i've never listened to them. are they pop punk? i was under the impression they were like menzingers esque orgcore punk type stuff

 

oh yeah it def sounds terrible, anyplace where you need to "network" sounds dumb

 

identifying if they're pop punk is very important because, as we know, pop punk doesn't always slap

 

yeah kind of all of the above and yet none of it. brendan sings in a kind of weird nasally voice the borders on shreiking at times and chris sings really earnestly and heartfelt and the lyrics are earnest and heartfelt and also hilarious and gross and tough and punk and great. it's not typical pop/punk/orgcore/rock and not really all that inaccessible either

you've intrigued me cups. where should i start, just the first record? i think i always thought of them as that world's hot water music but that was when i thought of that band as emo and didn't realize they also have some crazy cross genre appeal and as a result cross over into the same sorta scene or whatever.

I just saw a recent clip of a Smash Mouth show and I had no idea how much women like them.

 

I'd maybe skip the couple earlier albums, they're good but more typical pop punk. I'd pick any of Oh Calcutta/Apathy and Exhaustion/Metropole/Greatest Story, they are all pretty much all killer no filler

both of these songs are cool -- i like how all the basic components of a pop song are there so it's less like pop punk as an aesthetic and set of tropes and more like in a good songwriting, buzzcocks kinda way. wasn't prepared for his voice haha
