He was one of the reasons I even attempted to learn guitar when I was younger. Some of the stuff he did is wild.

I know We Were Dead isn't the best Modest Mouse album, but man, his added influence and guitar parts on that are fantastic too

 

Speaking of Joe's post it's funny that my guitar influences are probably different from anyone else who plays in this thread hahaha despite my taste not really being THAT different guitar-wise

 

I feel like I asked before, but who were your influences?

 

Steve Vai and Joe Satriani mainly, along with like John 5 and Tony Iommi. They're all the reasons I started playing really.

 

My dad is a big Chickenfoot fan!

 

Honestly I started playing cuz I wanted to play shitty punk songs and that shifted to shitty metal bands like Atreyu and AILD.

It wasn’t until I grew the fuck up that I got into the blues and country, which is predominantly my style.

After I started playing I got obsessed with like Slipknot and those kinds of guitarists haha which probably stunted my growth

 

I wanna learn to play country, I suck at fingerpicking

 

Learn to play the bands you listen to, and it may end up boring the shit out of you

I used to be so into Joe Satriani, dude is wild

 

It took awhile to realize songwriting and guitar skills are two completely separate paths, yet somehow interrelated.

I’m not bashing technically simple guitar playing, because it takes real talent to come up with interesting chord progressions, which I’m awful at.

 

If I were interested in playing Guitar, it would only be because Clapton is God in our family.

 

My dad was really really big on Clapton. As a kid I was a Santana guy.

Come to think of it a lot of my desire to play guitar was due to a Crossroads Guitar Festival DVD my dad had later in life hahaha
