Snyder is such a moron

 

Imagine being the person posting this about a guy who got his name drug all through the mud and trashed over just a movie he made, even after his daughter killed herself.

But honest question, what is wrong with what he said? That post above and the original article posted here both state that he has a point.

 

its honestly not even a point he has to make. The guy explained why he went the direction he did with the character. We knew from the start that this Bats was a dick. The problem is more so the way he is addressing it now. He made the artistic decision to go the route he did. Same as with Superman letting people did when buildings collapsed. He had a clear vision, that he executed. If he didn't want the backlash, he should have just let the fans have what they wanted.

 

If there's one thing we know, comic book fans definitely are always happy, rational, and not at all assholes even when a director makes a movie of "what they want."

 

Didn't he only respond to a question that was asked though? And hasn't he already answered it before? It just seems like he's annoyed it keeps getting asked. I get it.

 

I'm all for shitting on people when it's deserved, but this just seems mean spirited and not necessary when we all know where he is coming from. It's just another excuse for people who don't like his movies to shit on him

 

Pretty sure people have died at the hands of Batman in most, if not all, of his live-action appearances, but it was just more blatant and vicious in BvS. Snyder fans are some of the worst, and I wish he made some effort to reign them in, though I don't know how much responsibility he has in that regard.

I still love BvS, but it's easy to see why people hate his vision of the characters. People don't want the cynical portrayals of superheroes that are supposed to be symbols of hope, though it seemed like Batman and Superman were both trending towards that more traditional/positive portrayal by the end of BvS and in JL.

There is just so much to unpack there. What is with the heroes not lying to America part? Or the embezzlement? Lol.

If a superhero movie exactly resembled reality of the last two years it would make zero dollars

 

You could easily make a film with Kingpin as a Trump-esque character.

 

I think that would be giving Trump too much credit haha.

 

Could you imagine if Kingpin foiled his own plans by not being able to stay off Twitter?

 

First of all, Snyder, these are fictional characters whose roots are in disposal children's entertainment.

Writers like Alan Moore & Neil Gaiman have found ways to bring mature storytelling to the form, but even they understand the inherent silliness of the genre. Snyder, maybe you should read Alan Moore's "Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow," or his Tom Strong creation (I actually still need to read that one myself), or his work on Rob Liefeld's Supreme, which he turned into a love letter to classic comics. Or, maybe look into this guy, Grant Morrison, who has some of his writing adapted into that Man of Steel mess of a film; he has some good thoughts on superheroes and fiction.

Secondly, let's say that you're telling honest, real-life stories, actually envisioning superheroes in the real world. If that's actually your goal, and you're trying to show the darker potential of that world... Why are you framing these fearsome forces in a largely positive light? Sure, there's that 9/11 imagery in Man of Steel, but like, at the end of the day, these films want us to think these characters are badass. Snyder, you were pumped to wear a Batman glove for a moment in BvS.

And, finally, on a similar note... Yes, the real world is full of awful people, abuses of power, corruption, failed heroes, etc. That's true. Super powers in the real world would be a mess. But, like, good people do exist. I know some of them very well. Actual people with a genuinely sincere heart like Superman, Captain America, Ms Marvel, etc. do, indeed, exist. I'm sorry, Mister Snyder, that you haven't seen much good in your life that you feel like you can believe in; life sucks like that sometimes. But, as much darkness as there is in the world, the brighter side has never been less "real" or whatever. And, that's talking full on Superman-level goodness. That's not even getting to friggin' murder, dude.

Not sure why I let myself write this long of a post on this dumb topic, lol, but whatever.

 

Alan Moore is kinda more nuts than Snyder if we’re honest and has said and written way worse shit

 

Outside of worshipping an ancient snake deity that he knows was created as a hoax, & writing that awful Killing Joke comic that he's spoken out against himself in the years since... Is he really more nuts than Snyder?

I think there’s a superhero story that addresses the types of issues he’s talking about with a more cynical view of heroes. It’s called Watchmen, he should really look into it. Oh... wait...

When you take that approach and apply it to Superman it just... hurts.
