That’s so dope. I feel like Senses Fail tours are super weird because they routinely go from playing to a couple hundred people to thousands given the tour. Pretty wild range imo.

Note: realize other bands qualify under this same type of post but I personally notice real extremes varying Tour to tour with SF. Idk man!!

How exactly do you define an "industry plant band?" I've seen this phrase used a few times on this site, and I've never fully grasped onto what it meant so I'm legitimately asking.

I'm assuming it refers to a band/act that is positioned as starting from scratch, when in reality there's a whole bunch of backing from the start?

An industry plant is an artist who has Major/Indie Label backing their movement but presents themselves as a "home grown start up" label to create a pseudo organic following. They act as if things are miraculously happening for them based on their talent (via blog coverage, media coverage, mtv playing their vids, etc.) The reality is a low risk/high reward situation for labels looking to build the next "new star"

idk if something that was pitched as a genre supergroup from the beginning really fits the label of "industry plant".

Thanks for that. That's exactly what I thought it was (but articulated way better than I could have articulated it).

Not so sure that I agree with that tag for Fever 333, but I can see how it could be perceived that way too.

Supergroups like Fever 333 don't count as a "home grown star up" band since it features former and current members of noticeable bands.

Well, he asked what a industry plant is so I copy and pasted that for him. But thanks, pal.

Does anyone here listen to Deaf Havana? Just announced a little US headliner run, stopping in Brooklyn so I'm stoked tbh

No problem. Yeah, I don’t think I agree with it either. They are all from pretty successful backgrounds, so maybe they aren’t. Either way I’m a fan of the live show. Lol.

I think it's just a gimmick to their band tbh, just a marketing strategy, don't take it too seriously. Anyone know the support for their tour?

I personally never care if people think bands are or if they are “plant” band. If I can get down with it… I can get down with it. Lol

Anyone think we'll get a heavy band tour similar to Sad Summer Fest and Disrupt Fest? I mean there's Summer Slaughter, but I'd like something more akin to the other two.

There were rumors last year about Korn bringing back Family Values, but they're already touring with Alice In Chains and Underoath. Maybe next year.

Maybe that was supposed to be the FV tour, but things changed

A "plant" band is, like, the whole band is related to the CEO of Warner Bros. Records or something.

I enjoy a handful of songs by Palaye Royale, but they seem like an obvious plant in every way. Instantly had thousands of Facebook likes, heavily promoted by Alt Press and Rock Sound before they accomplish much of anything, and their live show is odd. The two guys who aren't acknowledged as members seem to do most of the playing.

Speaking of Summer Slaughter who do we think is on it? I'm gonna guess Periphery and After The Burial are locks for it

honestly the plant thing is a little bit hard to parse out just by the way certain bands go about getting signed to certain labels, it's fairly common for a band to start by working with a known producer, shopping the work, and then jumping to getting signed before really touring or establishing themselves. There are plenty of bands that go that route and really have never grown an audience without a label but don't feel like "plants". I feel like there's an element of the push or sudden rise that signifies an artist is a plant - like not only did a label pick them out, but there's a concentrated effort and investment to make the artist a known quantity almost overnight.

Knowing next to nothing about the band, but having just read their bio... Seems like they just got very lucky fairly early on in their careers. So they have the connections and support to do a whole bunch of shit other bands might not be able to do. There doesn't seem to be anything they're trying to conceal about that.

I think the implication is more like, a band who is positioning themselves as a "new band" who is "doing it themselves" or whatever... When there's actually a whole mess of money and support behind them so as to build up red or whatever.

I think at least one band from the Chaos & Carnage Tour (Whitechapel, Dying Fetus, Revocation, Fallujah) is likely. Plus that tour ends 5/17 which is usually around the time Slaughter gets announced.

I've wondered if Waterparks was a bit of a plant band. They shot up out of nowhere
