I’m worried about syndergaard becoming an attitude/anti-management problem like harvey was. I love the guy but he is verrrry outspoken most of the time, not always looking too great for himself.

Welp. Looks like the Tribe will start the season without all of its infield starters from last year.

  8. And yet the Indians are still in no danger of being any less than ten games ahead of the closest team in the ALC at any point after 5/1

  9. Damn it's just about 2019 prediction time huh?

They actually usually start pretty slow. I'm talking the first two months, but we'll see. Luckily, their first two weeks aren't that bad, so Lindor, Kipnis, and CarGo should be back and ready by then.

    NL East: Phillies
    NL Central: Cardinals

    NL WC1: Braves
    NL WC2: Rockies

    Braves over Rockies

    NL MOY: Mike Shildt
AL CBPOY: Chris Davis (can only go up from last season)
    NL CBPOY: Yu Darvish
AL Bold Prediction: Eloy Jimenez falls victim to the curse of signing a long-term deal before his debut, hits .230/10 HR/45 RBI
NL Bold Prediction: Despite the additions of Machado/Kinsler/rookies with good first impressions, Padres get bumped out of wild card contention on last day of the season.

  15. Wow.

If the Twins play in the 2019 World Series I will post a video in this thread of me eating an entire shoe. I get to put sauce on it tho

  19. I don't want to do this for every improbable AL team because then at some point there will be a non-insignificant chance of me eating a shoe which I definitely wanna avoid

dunno, tbd but I can't cook it in the sauce, just put it on top/dip it/whatever

@Jason Tate How has been regularly watching baseball this past year been for you? Correct me if I’m wrong, it was the first time in a while following the game? What prompted you getting back into the game? Did you start consuming other baseball-related content (writing/podcasts)?

There’s been a ton of change within the game over the last decade+ with advanced statistics going from being for wonks only to being showcased on the jumbotron and the back of baseball cards. Was that difficult to adjust to or get up to speed on? What are you excited about for the coming season?

I’ve been thinking about my own fandom lately and trying to pin down what it all means to me. For me, baseball is so deeply engrained, so utterly familar. It started when I was very young and has been my primary focus ever since. I was a baseball player for most halloweens, I played little league, travel, and high school ball, I quizzed myself with baseball trivia books and brought them on family vacations. I have a distinct memory of going through questions at Cedar Point while family went on rollercoasters. It was all consuming and essentially never let up.

And I wonder to myself, do I like baseball itself, the actual game, or is having the two decades of familiarity and context the real reason and baseball is a stand in for what could’ve been anything else. Is there a difference and is that question even worth pondering? I don’t know.

I did not mean to write that much. I guess, at the heart of it all, what does baseball mean to you? And has your fandom changed at all since starting to follow the game again?

While I think the Indians win the AL Central, I think it'll be a lot closer than past years. Other than their starting pitching, the Indians have a LOT of question marks (bullpen, outfield, entire offense outside of Lindor and Jose). The starting pitching has a chance to be all-time good. Last year they were the first rotation in history to have four pitchers w/ 200 strikeouts and honestly, they may have 5 this year with a full year from Bieber, who had 118 in just 19 starts last year.

I'd put my money on the Indians, but it would not shock me if another team from the AL Central had a breakout, surprise year.
