Damn this bracket is reminding me how much I love everything this man has done (except for maybe this newest album). Now I'm really hoping they'd repress the SoCo and Jack records on vinyl.

It was my AOTY last year, and imo the best album of the ITW age. Had to do it

 

What's holding the new one back for you? It's so wheelhouse Andrew for me. I'm surprised anyone whose been a fan of him wouldn't enjoy it.

 

I gotta give it another chance I guess. I listened to it once through when it first came out and nothing stuck out to me. I've listened to the singles a few more times since then and still never clicked.

I loved self titled, though, and thought Zombies on Broadway was really good too.

 

It’s so much better than ZOB. Has a few instant classics and all-time greats on it. I’ve liked everything he’s ever done but this has been my favorite in a long time.

 

Maybe when we get to it in this bracket you’ll learn to love the great album.

 

One listen is not enough! It's definitely his most lyrically nuanced in awhile, IMO.

 

I think Upside Down Flowers is a very mature album and I think a lot of it is related to him getting to open for Billy Joel and how someone like that influenced his songwriting.

UDF has been my favorite Andrew album since the JM days for sure. ZOB was the weakest for me of the AMitW era.

 

He has confirmed that at the shows! Specifically about Monday Flowers, but the influence is clear in other places. That song is pure Billy and it thrilled me to hear that it was an explicit inspiration.
