Only Ashes is nowhere near the worst song he's put on an album

 

Only Ashes is my favorite Something Corporate song.

I mean, "21 and Invincible" is actually good.

 

It’s not Jordan or Drunk Girl level terrible, but the best compliments I can give are that it’s catchy and silly.

 

I really think the Josh songs hold North back. I just like Andrew's songwriting way, way more.

 

Struggling to think of anything I like less.

 

Jordan and Drunk Girl are both next-level terrible.

For my money North has only one weak spot . . .

 

Yeah, those two aren't great. I find them more enjoyable than the vague, overwrought metaphors of "Only Ashes," though.

For the record, I don't think either of the SoCo records are as strong as anything Andrew did after, and that's partially because I don't care for Josh's songwriting style.

I’m also baffled by the Only Ashes hate. I love 21 because listening back to it and seeing where he is now always makes me really happy, but they’re both great. Like that’s not even close to the worst on the album, much less worst of all time.

 

North was the first Andrew album I ever heard. I remember being so blown away by "As You Sleep" and then thinking that both "Space" and "Ashes" were pretty bad. I eventually came around on the former, but I have never liked the latter.

 

I really like the Josh songs for the most part (though "Space" is definitely one of the weaker tracks on North IMO). They might not be as lyrically strong as the Andrew stuff, but he always brings the big choruses and I appreciate that. I even remember enjoying his side project Firescape when that was a thing.
