Yeah tbh that’s news to me and I’m hella grossed out
I knew he was a real estate agent tho. No shade there.

I do find merit in relating to them and sharing them or using them as a coping mechanism or a roundabout way of crying for help.

I guess I was more referring to that kind of humor being used in a cheap way and not in a "I actually feel suicidal" kind of way. But I guess you never really know for sure where the joke is coming from and what they're struggling with. I've talked to friends about my own depression and thoughts and they're usually astounded and I'm like, "Did you think I was joking?" or something. Which I technically was but I was sharing it because it felt so real, idk

  3. I don't know shit about emo nite but its very, very funny to me to imagine an emo nite filled with former scene kids turned stereotypical LA clout-chaser types and wannabe actors talking about their latest under-5 or trying to network with agents while My Chemical Romance is playing in a too-bright club

  5. The entire concept of Emo Nite is insane to me. Like, people really get nostalgic for this stuff? I'm a senior in High School and I'm already tired of half of it.

  6. There's certainly some of that, but... That's the worst part, most of them never WERE scene kids to begin with. It's like cultural appropriation except for something that ultimately doesn't matter, unlike real cultural appropriation. (Lots of the same perpetrators though, so that's something.) And they're much less trying to network with agents as they're trying to be photographed next to celebrities or just get "featured" by the scene photographers wandering around who they wouldn't speak to in any other circumstance.

Yeah that is what it comes down to is that you don’t know where they’re coming from...it can end up (likely unintentionally!) being kinda gatekeeper-y like “must be this sad to post this meme” lol

But I also think people are just living with this casual nihilism now bc of the state of the world, but for some people I guess there’s a big jump from “wanting to die” and “going to actually make effort to die”.

  8. imo you shouldn't be allowed in emo night if you're not dressed like you're going to a fallout boy show in 2007

Well then I would probably reserve judgement until you’ve been out of high school for 10 years lol you haven’t had anything to be nostalgic about yet!!!

Memories are nice, but that's all they are. Prestigious

I’m so glad the two I went to in Michigan were just people that definitely were into the scene drinking and singing to those songs

wrap yourself in petals for armor.

The one I went to halfway through everyone started going on stage and putting their arms around each other and screaming the songs at the top of our lungs. I actually can't think of more fun I've had at a shitty dive bar lol.

I agree with your point about casual nihilism and the state of the world, for sure.

I guess it just makes me even more mad/sad/whatever than I already am that so many other people feel the same way, too. Maybe they don't have anywhere to actually vent or anyone to vent to. Or just can't/don't have the drive to do something about it.

The thread got away from JJR, but he currently plays in the band Keep Flying which is doing fairly well and get stumped for fairly often, and continues to work with A Loss for Words, Four Year Strong, Light Years, and worked with Transit until they ended

    Things have changed.

For what it's worth, this is from the press release:

"An important theme of Sad Summer Festival is its commitment to non-profit partnerships and involvement. The tour will soon be announcing its national partner, which will involve a daily presence on site at the festival to provide education and resources to fans. In addition, the festival will tie in individually with each date by working alongside charities in the community to encourage fans to give back by donating their time to volunteer efforts at a local level. More info on the festival’s non-profit efforts and how fans can get involved to come."

So there might be a mental health partner TBA.

They’ve played Fest a couple times and do well in the NY/NJ area. Friends of mine keep accidentally working with them because they’re new to the scene and don’t know, which is what makes the quiet firing of JJR by TWY so disappointig
