I was more or less referring to the other forums we tend to mention due to the threads/comments/etc :-) After seeing that instagram post from Tom, I had to say something. It's so obnoxious how he keeps poking his head out. It'd be better if he took time away from the public eye, especially right now... but he can't help himself.

Tom isn't very good live and is bad with communication and promises but he isn't an outright terrible person. I'd hate to be in his position and have such awful things said about me. Skiba is the man I'm glad blink is doing fantastic! But also, we don't need to hate Tom.

From what I've seen, people either think they're done and just not saying so or they're confident enough in Skiba's juggling to be able to do both, still very annoyed that it's on the back burner though. There's not much in between.

Blink and Trio are my two favorite bands, interchangeable. But I'm not. I actually hope making a very pop-punk album results in a more raw Trio album the next time. Since Crimson their albums lack that something special for me even though I don't dislike any of them. I'm quite content waiting however long it takes for the next Trio album. That is likely a rare thought for most hardcore Trio fans though lol.

    Well said.

  10. I don't think Alkaline Trio is done. After the Blink tour, I think Alkaline Trio will be back in full swing for the majority of 2017. And maybe in Blink's downtime, they will release the EP they've been hinting at, maybe play a few shows around that, and then will do something big again in late 2018/early 2019.

(Writing out those years felt SUPER futuristic, haha. Crazy!)

The future of Alkaline Trio, I believe, rests on the success of this album/tour.

And, ultimately, whatever the fuck is going on with Tom, too, I guess.

If Tom went away for this next album cycle and came back to the band, I'd believe some self discovery happened and would probably be at least curious. Impossible, I know.

I don't think they're done either, none of them have any reason to lie about it and tie themselves up since they're all talented and kind find plenty of things to do. Whether that changes somewhere down the road is a different story, but for now I think they're fine. It wouldn't make much sense to me for Matt to drop Trio since the bands serve two completely different purposes. Where as Blink is something he's been invited into and probably has to do way more in terms of artistic and management compromise, Trio is basically his since he's the only original member and has the freedom to do with it what he wants. It may be naive but considering that he's always had his hand in different projects even before this for creative reasons, I don't think he'd drop Trio based on artistic endeavors alone.

  18. sounds like we might get some new songs played live tomorrow! unless they just mean the 3 they've been doing + "rabbit hole" or something, ha. i wouldn't put that past them. but i'm excited to see what's up! wish i lived in NY.

Agreed with this, as a Trio fan. My Shame is True (and Kuts) blew everything blink has done since untitled out of the water, so it's frustrating knowing it'll be a while before we get anything from them again.

As of this moment, I don't see that as a possibility, but like I said earlier, I'm open to it. You can never tell what is truth and what is fiction with that man haha

Interesting that Travis notes that Tom pointed out "You never called me either", kind of adds a bit of nuance to this narrative that Mark and Travis were clamoring to get things done and Tom was the holdout, especially since they've also said Tom was the one who instigated the writing/recording of Dogs Eating Dogs. Now, I think Tom certainly impeded the band, but it sounds a bit like they were really noncommital and weird with each other as a trio overall.

But all the speculation about who's fault it is or what their relationship is or who's lying or being genuine, whether or not Tom will come back, it just doesn't seem productive to me. I don't really care. They have a new album coming out, great, I'm excited. There's so much uncertainty after that, it's useless to stress or theorize about. As a fan, it's like waiting for that Frank Ocean album. Whenever he's ready, whenever he does something he wants to put out, awesome, I'm in. Same with blink. They were my first favorite band, they still mean a lot to me, whatever iteration they're putting out there, whatever lineup they have or whenever they want to put out music, I'm into it. Whatever works for them. They're the artists, I'm just interested in what they put out there.

Now THAT is a hot take, people!

    but probably accurate

  23. Shame was amazing. It made me hope that Blink (even when Tom was still in the band) would record their next album with Bill Stevenson. When Skiba joined, I thought for sure they'd work with Bill since Mark and Travis are HUGE Descendents fans, and Skiba already had a foot in the door. I was pretty shocked when they announced Feldmann.

YG no doubt, I feel the urge to listen to the White album more times than I thought I would, though. It's excellent

I don't blame Tom for speaking out against articles about why he's not in blink anymore. However I don't think they can record again. Their "artistic differences" are way too huge and I think Mark is just sick of him. Mark wants to play fast 3 chord, 3 minute pop rock songs about being a teenager and Tom wants to have 8 minutes of beeping and change the world with soundscapes about dreams and love with short film animations and accompanying novels. Travis will go along with anything that gives him a reason to smash his drums around haha.

Basically everything is fine the way it is now!
