Screw that. I like the stuff with Skiba so far, but I'd rather have Sekrets, solo Skiba, and Trio before blink any day of the week.

If Skiba stays in blink, that impacts the rest of his stuff, regardless of how dedicated he may be. Let blink have Tom so we can have all the Skiba ever.

 

Interesting. That's the only thing I hadn't considered - the possibility that Matt and Tom come in and out of the band. This might not be a popular opinion, but while I can't stand Tom's personality these days, his ridiculously shitty guitar tone, and his nonsensical lyrics, I don't think that Blink will hit their greatest heights without him. I'm one of those people that see self-titled as the pinnacle of their career, and would love if Tom came back and delivered an album like that. But like you said, history repeats itself and I don't think he would even have it in him. I think what happens is Blink releases a new album that is generally enjoyable (I keep thinking it'll have a similar reception to something such as Future Hearts by All Time Low), but doesn't quite hit the mark. I'm okay with that. If we get a good pop-punk album I'll be stoked, but I'll always wish that we got more albums like self-titled.

 

Why would you want to see a shitstorm?

Eh, if Tom came back I'd be done with blink. It's that simple for me at this point.

 

While I'd love to have trio back in full force, I'd also love for Matt not to get fucked over. I don't think Mark and Travis would do it but obviously Tom is on one.

 

Tom keeps killing my buzz. I may have to go the next ten days without this forum to stay hyped. I could not be sicker of Tom Delonge than I am right now.

 

I think I'm pretty much in the same boat. It'll be cool that blink w/Skiba was a thing because I love everyone involved, but yeah, I love Alk3 SO FUCKING MUCH. And really don't want them put on the backburner. And I love blink w/Tom SO FUCKING MUCH and want that to still exist. So, idk. We'll see.

 

I'm of the same mindset. I wouldn't really care if Tom came back, I'd passively check out whatever they release from that moment on. I just want Skiba in every form.

 

Could...could Mark be the bad egomaniac in this situation? That' be pretty crazy, huh

 

I certainly feel like he's not as 'innocent' in this breakup as he was in the first one.

 

How bout this... NO BLINK AFTER this album.

Give me pissed off Mark in +44, Alkaline Trio, Sekrets, solo endeavors, and all that.

I'd take all of that music over new blink every single day ever.

 

If that stuff kept happening over and over, I wouldn't try hard at all to get them to stay or anything. I'd have a "fuck him" mentality that I'm sure Mark kind of has/had.

Yup, I pretty much agree with that and have expressed in the past how Mark would have a right to feel that way. Just more and more I feel like we're not getting the whole story.

 

I'd lose respect for Mark and Travis if they went back to recording with him. If blink with Matt had to be no more, yes fuck Tom. Kill blink. Everybody go their separate ways.

I don't really give a shit if Tom comes back or not; I'm so damn sick of talking about it haha. I'm going to enjoy the current lineup and if the band is able to patch things up and not let Tom control everything, cool with me. Seeing that Alkaline Trio are my favorite band, I'd much rather Matt focus on them, but for now, this is perfectly fine and I have no complaints.

A lot of fans obsess over Tom to the point where's he's become a false idol, and it's like, yes, he wrote some blink classics and yeah yeah yeah, we all get it -- but you'd think after what he did on Neighborhoods and his AVA crap, people would be cool with him going away for awhile since blink wasn't his priority. Like, yo, he's the abusive relationship you swore you wouldn't go back to after giving him one too many chances, and now that he's gone, you're clamoring for him to come back. The new album is the perfect scenario to re-energize, refresh, and re-establish the band. Tom will only hinder that process, so until he and the dudes are ready to be on the exact same page, this is all for the best.

Are Alkaline Trio fans feeling screwed over by Skiba leaving? I have absolutely zero interest in the band or any of their work so I have no idea how their fans are feeling

 

Didn't see it as necessarily offensive, but I understand and refute my statement. My apologies.

 

I don't think anyone (at least here) is clamoring for him to come back. Simply saying we'd like Skibas time freed up after this album. I could care less what Tommy does, I'm only here for Skiba anyways.

 

I believe this is the longest gap between Alkaline Trio albums the band's ever had. Hardcore fans are feeling a bit nervous, I think.
