Also I don't know if you guys read SB Nation's Game of Thrones Scorecards but they're always pretty funny and their take on Sansa was pretty spot on: 'Game of Thrones' Scorecard: Episode 6.09, 'Battle of the Bastards'

"Oh hey Jon! So, you've consulted your trusted advisers? Finalized your battle plan? There's nothing that can be changed at this late hour? Basically this conversation is delaying the rest you vitally need before a big battle?

"Great! Just wanted to make sure all of that was clear before I told you THAT YOU SHOULD HAVE ASKED MY OPINION ABOUT WHAT TO DO. Oh sure, I was here for your entire strategy meeting and all of the previous ones, and I easily could have spoken up THEN, but I'm a wildly uneven character who oscillates in intelligence and temperament from scene to scene.

"So what should you do? I don't know! I don't know tactics, I'm just here to give shitty advice you're going to ignore. Oh, also I'm withholding key information about the heavy cavalry that will ride in to save your ass -- but only after thousands of people are slaughtered.

"Anyhoo, we're both pretty dumb but we'll win anyway, so go ahead and do whatever."

I didn't get to watch sunday night, so I avoided this thread at all costs until I watched last night. I had a lot to type up but thankfully after a few people attempted to downplay this episode as a disappointing predictable rehashed battle, the conversation steered to better places. Cause really, that episode smacked the spot.

My thoughts no one cares for:
-Ramsey knew he could hit Rickon, and we all knew he'd die but Jon wasn't going to leave him out there. Jon absolutely did underestimate Ramsey and was forewarned by Sansa that he'd do something along those lines. Seeing how that played out was good. I believe that Ramsey thought Jon would die out there with Rickon in the sea of arrows, and that would make Jon's army retreat seeing their leader get mowed down with his brother. Davos realized exactly what Ramsey was doing and even said "Don't" but it was too late. Lucky for Jon his men got there in time.
-The Cinematography in this episode absolutely blew me away. It was intense, fluid, and relentless. None of the CGI felt forced or cartoonish to me.
-The dialogue between Dany and Yara had me grinning with each comeback Yara had for her. Yara has become a favorite of mine this season.
-Things I thought were intense and well done that were not predicted: Tormund surviving as well as taking out Smalljon the way he did, Rickon's body getting covered in arrows, Jon nearly suffocating, the realistic display of body piles that represents exactly how medieval battles went (as well as the realistic battle tactics the Bolton army used), Dany's dragons in action, Greyworm finally killing somebody this season, actually getting to see TKOTV plowing through the Bolton forces, and of course, Jon getting to literally pound Ramsey's face in.

It felt like this episode was 6 seasons coming. I don't think they were rehashing anything, they didn't even try to hide the fact that the KOTV would come to the rescue. Earlier this season you saw Littlefinger convince them to support Sansa and even said they'd be leaving to do so. He told Sansa this face to face, but she was conflicted with using his support because of what he did to her. We also saw Sansa write the letter to him, so it never felt to me like they were trying to suprise us with that. The real thing that I think everyone should've been wondering was who'd still be alive by the time they got there.

I want to watch the episode again, was so good.

Could you imagine if the 7 kingdoms came together (or at least a few huge armies) came together to battle the Walkers when they break through the wall? THAT would be some shit.

yeah there was a part during that scene that Ramsay wasn't even looking down the field to aim, he just launched it. basically toying with him until jon could get close.

Idk I mean, With Bran still not having his big moment yet, and with how the political aspects of how everything else is playing out between King's Landing, Mereen, and Dorne, just wiping it all away for one big fight with the undead seems a like a bit of a shallow wrap up to what has been an amazing story on mostly all fronts. There has to be more to it other than Dany shows up with dragons and melts the snow people while they're picking apart the northerners.

Gotta admit, I'm going to miss Ramsay. I wanted to see more of his hand to hand combat from a couple of seasons ago, dude is a complete psychopath and it's fun to watch.

What houses actually fear the Walkers, besides the one's in the North? The Lannisters know what's up, right?

I know GRRM says there are no political undertones in his stories, but having enemies come together to fight the greater enemy almost has to happen.

I don't think the Lannisters ever gave two shits about the WW rumors and disregarded them.

I don't think any factions or houses in the south think the Walkers are anything but rumors and tall tales besides the Brotherhood without Banners.

I think we're going to get more perspective on how the south disregards the white walkers when the Sam/Gilly arc makes it to the Citadel in Oldtown. If they don't cut him from the show there should be one new character there that does believe in what's coming.

Yeah I could see Kevan being concerned over the WW situation if it was presented to him, but idk how much longer he'll be Hand, or even living really

  18. I wonder how Littlefinger was able to camp TKOTV at Moat Cailin, which is literally on the Kings Road just south of Winterfell, for that long without Ramsey being like "wtf is that army doing there".

  19. Also, when the wall comes down I bet the WWs will have enough time to make it to at least the Neck before 1) anyone believes the northerners, 2) the southern houses can stop bickering long enough to assemble a joint army. That is, if they're not already preoccupied with Dany. Or Euron.

And if they end this with a cheap "everyone vs WWs" battle then I'll be so pissed. Unless the WWs win, of course. I could tolerate that.

GRRM has been quoted stating that the ending to the whole thing will be "bittersweet", so obviously something bad is gonna go down.

I mean I think it's safe to assume the ending will be bittersweet for him because it's the end of such a long crazy journey for the author himself

  22. drstrong

    I'm Back.

That's one way to interpret it.

I'm more along the lines of "Jon takes the iron throne but everyone else dies". That is bittersweet.

  23. Isn't it safe to assume Dany takes the Iron Throne? That's where I'd put my money.
