I'll never understand the hate Elway gets. He became the GM and instantly went to the playoffs 5 years in a row, 2 of which ended up in the Super Bowl and won one of them.

Yeah, the last few years have been disappointing, but I'd bet that 80% of the people in this thread would cry tears of joy to have the same 8 years of overall success that he brought to the Broncos.

He's not some genius or something, but he's been better than most teams have been this past decade.

 

Elway got lucky that Manning decided to choose his team, the rest of his choices haven't been great at all.

yes he convinced Peyton Manning to sign there but what big time moves that he made were good?

He has been heinous recently and cannot judge young QBs for shit

 

Always thought he had so much potential, but he really hasn't done much the past few years. Oh well.

 

Getting Manning isn't just getting lucky. Getting great players is part of being a GM and even if that move is discounted (which it shouldn't be) then that's ignoring building other huge pieces to build one the best offenses of all times and then turn around and build one the best defenses of all time a couple years later.

 

That team was successful in spite of Elway IMO

 

Yeah, Super Bowl quality rosters and coaching has nothing to do with the GM. Hell, he's lucky he didn't have to do anything!

 

Demaryius Thomas was drafted in 2010 before Elway got there
Eric Decker was drafted in 2010 before Elway got there

Why is Elway seemingly the only GM that gets criticized for going to two Super Bowls?
