I don't really think democrats give a shit of the bills passed - they just want the ammunition to be able to blame republicans for mass shootings in the future.

Meh, it's one of those things that can never be fixed considering we have a government that is so pro war.

I have to take my shoes off at the airport because of the actions of one guy.

But there is no money involved in that. Regulating guns more so than they already are will cost money, and potentially cause gun manufacturers to lose money...so that's a no no.

What about the regulation and taxing of cigarettes? Not sure if it's comparable to guns since it's not in the Constitution.

Regulation meaning the age requirement and where you're allowed to smoke? I think they tax cigs so they can make more money.

But the taxing and regulation has led people to quit or not take it up at all, which has damaged the tobacco industry.

16 year old trump supporter arguing with a BLM supporter. There is a massive amount of ignorance on both sides.

BLM supporter - Trump's father and grandfather were KKK members.
Trump supporter - I think the democratic party started the KKK, by the way.

Is that really what made people quit? I think the limitations of where you can smoke in most states, along with the realization that cigs are actually bad for you probably had something to do with the decline.

This isn't directed towards you, but for future reference regarding the KKK started by the Democrats...
"Yes, we know. However, we’re not living in the past. Nixon’s Southern Strategy changed party alignment, and you goddamned know it. You are not that stupid. You know very well that the KKK is not and has never considered itself a liberal or progressive organization. Call me crazy, but I’m pretty sure they are not too fond of us. There is a reason David Duke, Strom Thurmond and Jesse Helms switched parties, OK?

Also, you don’t want us anyway. If you wanted to be on the side of the civil rights activists, feminists, etc., you would be. If you wanted to fight racism, you wouldn’t belong to a party that fought to gut the Voting Rights Act. End of story."

10 kinds of disingenuous bullshit that need to go away

Sin taxes have pretty much been proven to lower use of the thing being taxed at this point.

The TSA are the same people who can get mall security jobs, so we can't put too much faith into them, at least not as a whole.

People can't afford it and/or want to save money so they stop or at the very least cut back.

What about the people who only buy the tobacco and roll themselves, or the pipe smokers? I wonder if there is a stat for that.

As long as it's actually used to pay for Pre-K, I love it. Especially love that they included 'diet' drinks in the tax, ends up making it a little less regressive. It also targets a lot of other sugar drinks that aren't as heavily tilted towards poor people.

I certainly haven't read any proof that sin taxes deter partaking in the "sin" itself, at least in not any meaningful way.

Is it your position that taxes should be used to influence behavior?

There's a ton of studies out there on how things like tobacco and alcohol use drop after taxes are increased on either.

Also, Clinton lands a great line about all of Trump's books "ending at Chapter 11", but then does the "yeah boy, got you" nod and shit eating grin....just land the line and smile a little bit and let it sink in, don't be so smarmy about it. Got too much of a likability problem for that.
