I smiled when I noticed no one was credited with playing drums on On Your Worst Day because the beatwork is so fucking good I'd never noticed the absence

top tier Copeland song, it was just a weird choice for a single

 

That’s a little like how I first felt about Pope. I could tell I liked the direction they were going into but I appreciated the song a lot more once I heard everything after it. I can’t just like pick and choose a few songs to listen to on this, it’s gotta be the whole thing haha or at least start at one of my favorites and let it play on.

 

Being an album listener first and foremost is the reason I’m not afraid of wearing out singles. Songs always take on a completely new life in the context of an album for me.

That’s especially true of this album. Knowing how heartbreaking and serious the entire thing is, the pre-release songs sound a lot sadder. Like, Night Figures felt light and romantic out of context, but now it hits me as one of the darkest, heaviest moments on the album.

 

"On Your Worst Day" is one of my favorites! I loved all the singles, but this was the one that really stood out to me and made waiting for this album to come out so hard.

The song itself is such a great little work of art within the album because it tells a story in a different way than anything I've ever heard before (as far as I can think of at least). The literal structure of the song gave insight into the character's perspective in such an organic way... I just love it. Copeland has always written songs that hurt, but "On Your Worst Day" really, really hits me hard.

It's the perfect example as to what makes Blushing so successful in my eyes.

 

On Your Worst Day is easily one of my favorites. The lack of typical structure really takes me on a journey and it almost moves like a piece of classical music

 

Agree with all the above, especially the classical music part, but it must be mentioned that the cake line makes me cringe slightly, feels so weird

 

I can understand that, but I like it. There’s something very simple and pure about it. As a lyric, I don’t think it necessarily reads well, but with Aaron’s delivery I think it works

 

Literally the only thing I don’t really like on this album is the way Aaron delivers “chasing melodies around your skin” on Lay Here. It’s just a lot of syllables to pack into such a small amount of time and feels kinda forced but I mean, having a problem with the delivery of one line on an entire album ain’t so bad

 

The delivery is marvelous, it sounds phenomenal, I just remember reading along with the lyrics the first time and thinking “well ok. Do like that purity idea though. It’s cute I suppose haha. Minor gripe anyway, it’s a contender for my song of the year so far.

 

I think there are actually a handful of moments where the melody and words don’t always vibe well, but his voice is just so damn luscious I get over it.

 

The cake line is one of my favs.

The cake line came across as a weird choice for me at first. Because why cake out of all things. It grew on me once I stopped over thinking it. And I definitely agree that Aaron's delivery helped.
That line's such a great contrast from "I want to make you smile on your worst day". So now I feel that it really works. When you want to make a person happy you want to make them happy when they're sad as well as even happier when they are already happy.

 

I'm actually never happy on my birthday hahh, a cake helps though!

 

When he sings “hey lover, come over here” after that line I picture him holding the piece of cake and motioning her over in an especially sultry manner.

I haven't listened to this in like two weeks

guess I should fix that tonight

 

I've heard this album more than I can count, but I've yet to listen via with headphones. Thus I never realized he said cake haha. I need to change that

 

Just came in here to say how good this album is. Just gave it a full listen on a long driving trip.. really digging it.

 

Anyone know if FIL is playing stuff off of The Man With Wooden Legs on this tour? I highly doubt it, but I thought maybe since it turns 10 this year
