Fun fact if you work near The Star there are self driving cars designed to take you to Raising Cane's and back (and other actual restaurants obviously) for your lunch break

I never used em because my lunch break was always way too late to use em (and I'm old-man-yells-at-cloud about self driving cars)

Corporations are bad and treat labor unfairly. Yes. The NFL is a unique corporation with a unique wage scale and model for their labor. I still side with labor having as much control as possible, even when they’re making millions times more than I am. They have more privilege than your average middle class worker but the balance of power still disproportionately favors ownership vs them. Again, Brown’s unique shittiness is another layer to this, but not one that affects the core philosophical dilemma.

How does his money work if he sits out and/or just gets cut? How much money does the Steelers lose?

I feel like people shouldn’t compare normal jobs to sports jobs.

  5. If he doesn't play I imagine they get that salary cap credit next season.

If he gets cut it depends if he is pre or post June 1

    Big in agreement with @Nathan

While it's looked at as selfish, he has a chance to help the market for WRs and get other lower tiered played paid more than they might have gotten before. A bunch of middle tiered qbs don't get big deals if the actual elite qbs don't get record setting deals before them.

I just hate the whole “what about us regular folk” argument because it’s comparing apples to oranges

Yes they are privelaged to play this sport for millions of dollars but us “regular folk” are the only reason they’re able to do it in the first place. We want to be entertained so we provide that avenue for them to be rightfully compensated.

Basically we’re enablers in all of it

I mean I've gotten transferred 3 separate times at work, it's a chance I was willing to take when I decided to go full time in the grocery business. I knew that came with the job, sure it sucks. I don't know, I guess I find it kind of insulting that a guy who plays a game and makes millions doing it is going to complain about getting traded somewhere.

The reason I side with ownership on this isolated occasion is BROWN is the one who demanded a trade. If he was doing everything he’s supposed to do and got blindsided by the Steelers shopping him, his refusal would be understandable.

But he knew what the implications are of asking for a trade. The point of a trade is never to satisfy the player, it’s to get the maximum value back for someone who isn’t working out.

He had to know he was subject to the highest bidder when he caused all this drama in the first place. Don’t bite off more than you can chew. If you don’t want to go to a team like Buffalo, don’t demand a trade *shrug*

And especially the fact he expects to be catered to by the very team he’s been spitting on. Biting the hand that feeds, so to speak. You definitely can’t expect Pitt to care where Brown wants to go after how he’s acted toward them

Yeah I was kinda speaking more from the angle of us being like "cmon man" about it which is all in fun and has no control over the situation, not about any players' rights to refuse a trade. Nathan's right.

Honestly, I don't really feel like teams bowing out of trade discussions is all that much of a surprise. Beyond his diva-like attitude and his domestic abuse issues, he also broke the trust with his teammates last season. Tons of teams really value chemistry and he could absolutely cause a problem on that. Heading into the offseason, I really didn't think many teams would actually be interested. I always thought it would be Raiders and 49ers seem like the only teams that could be reasonable destinations.

This whole situation shouldn't be surprising and no one should really be surprised at the lack of true value on Brown. As a Browns fan, would I ever think Josh Gordon's talent was worth a 5th rounder? Hell no. Factoring all of his issues in problems made it shocking to even get a 5th rounder. It's not like these traits come out of nowhere, so I don't really feel Pittsburgh or any person should feel offended that they aren't getting the "right" value. You're investing in a person, not a wide receiver.

But it also doesn't change the fact that a grown man whom is a millionaire at this point is acting the way he is. It's embarrassing for a grown adult to be acting the way he is.

It’s the same thing with how people constantly complain about NCAA players wanting to get paid and how they get special treatment and scholarships so they shouldn’t complain. It’s a broken system decided to screw the players over.

or being told to play for free and make all the money in the NFL when in reality only a small margin make the crazy amount of money.

And I have fellow Eagles fans who think I'm crazy for not wanting AB. I learned my lesson after the TO situation.

A player has a right to refuse a trade in general. But if you ASK for a trade and then try to dictate where you won’t go that’s just being way too presumptuous. You either want to be traded to the highest bidder or you don’t. You can’t just take value out of the equation since that’s the whole goal of a trade in the first place.

Honestly we have no idea what happened behind closed doors. Maybe the situation is so bad he’s acting this way because he thought the Steelers would cut him so he could choose his next team. Who knows

I still think that him dictating where he won't go helps those teams that we already know he won't play for. It also helps all the other teams know that they may need to have conditions in the trade to ensure they get Brown for the right value (such as, if he doesn't play X games we get Y pick).

While I think that CAN be selfish, I also think it helps avoid wasting a trade.

He can honestly retire and then un-retire and sign with whoever he wants too so I’m not even sure why any of this is an issue

Marshawn Lynch basically forced his way out of Seattle when he un-retired because the Seahawks wanted to get his contract off the books
