How he’s acting exacerbates it, but also I’m not sure that it happens as much in the NFL as other leagues.

Eli Manning comes to mind. We also hear of it around draft time a lot. Plus it probably happens a LOT behind closed doors.

I mean yeah this is probably true I guess, it’s only being reported because it’s Brown and there’s so many eyes on this situation

Correct. I'm hoping he starts trying to lobby for them to trade Big Ben instead, once he realizes that their colors really do complement his mustache the best.

I just feel like Antonio Brown had plenty of opportunities to set himself up to avoid that. It's not like he's on a team friendly deal or a rookie deal right now, he ensured he got the highest contract in the league for his position at the time, failed to include a NTC to control his destiny, and now wants another contract already. Since he got that contract he's been a source of tension for the team, he's been sued for throwing furniture out his window and nearly hitting a toddler with it, and he's been investigated for a domestic assault. He's already crippled his trade value without refusing to go to Buffalo.

Now I do think he should be able to say "If I go to Buffalo I won't play" because at the least that keeps Buffalo from spending picks on someone for no reason; it helps them much more than it helps him. But I also think that this thread is pretty justified in scoffing at him and being like "What the hell man" hahaha.

What's worse about it: the traffic or the permeating smugness that's no doubt in the air in surrounding areas?

Honestly, he should just divert all the attention and come out saying "I just no longer want to be a wide receiver for a college sexual assaulter."

I actually really like the area altogether, I had a lot of fun there. But it drove up our office rent so much we had to sublet it and send everyone to work from home to stay in business haha.

I have no respect or defense for Antonio Brown specifically. Just the broader right to leverage labor against being traded somewhere someone doesn’t want to go. Scoff at Brown all you want, but every player does and should have the right to deploy their bodies/labor/talent as leverage in trade/draft scenarios. See Elway, Eli Manning, Gronk, Bo Jackson, etc

I feel like all those players had much, much more leverage than AB does right now though (Maybe not Eli but he didn't refuse to play for the first team that wanted him after demanding a trade). I know we're looking at the grand scheme of being able to control where you want to play because of risking your bodies/wellbeing/etc (which I agree with you on) but I do think we have to look at this case by case because of the specific ways AB has harmed his ability to be taken seriously while doing this.

But in general? Yeah there are like 1690+ players who I feel like should get to control their own destiny out of the 1696 players on final rosters.

Or, he could take it a step further and say he's tired of playing WR on the whole, and that he'd also like to play an entirely different position. Like kicker.

AB probably wants to be released so the team doesn't have to give up anything and he can choose where he wants to go.

Sure but a large portion of the conversation was centered on the dispute of whether Brown has the “right” to pick and choose where he’s traded to. Which he does. And all players should.

I also think players have a lot of privilege to be able to say no to millions of dollars haha

Like if a middle class person’s job relocates them, or they get offered a job that pays more somewhere else while they’re struggling? Even if their family doesn’t want to leave it’s hard to turn down. You may find it extremely hard to start over at a new company and get the same position / maintain your standard of living.

I was born into a military family so I know all about being forced to move somewhere haha. It sucks but when your career salary is at stake, for most people it’s necessary.

Brown gonna demand to be traded and then scoff at and sabotage the trades? What the hell is that? He already made his millions sure but he should be a lot more mature and professional regarding something that HE personally catalyzed and facilitated. If “I want a trade” doesn’t mean EVERY team is a possibility depending on how much they value you? Then sit down and shut your mouth lol cause that’s what a trade is.

Like, this happens to people who did nothing wrong at their job. Conversely, Brown’s attitude and behavior is ENTIRELY why he’s on the trade block, and he can’t even accept the changes that come as a result of his behavior. Can’t even own up to and take responsibility for being a total dunce.

You know how there’s “having your cake and eating it too”? Brown knocked his cake over purposely and now is demanding the Steelers make him another one. Fuck that haha.

What happens if he doesn't get released is gonna be interesting, does he give up the ghost? or does he agree to a trade with a team who doesn't have an all pro qb?
