Also, Im excited pharrell is involved. I hope its for the album and just not some stand alone thing. I would see this as a confirmation that they're actually doing something different on this record. They wont make She's out of her mind pt. 2 with Pharrell producing.

Down is also great. The shakers.

I think TOYOPAJ/BCR/untitled is my peak for him. Just a really great and unique run.

I wonder what he likes so much about that song. I only just listened to it for the first time but it doesn't sound especially more amazing than any other Trio song. I liked it but it just kinda sounds like Time to Waste but not as good.

The extended bridges and outros to songs on the tour for Untitled were insane.

Stay Together For The Kids, Down, I Miss You.. all were amazing to hear live in 2003/2004.

No hyperbole - The most heartbreaking part of the hiatus for me was that we lost out on what could have been - potentially all kinda of that stuff on the next record.

Yeah I agree there was just too much time between Untitled and Neighborhoods for them to get back into that Untitled mind set. Between Tom changing his musical style (and not really caring at all) and Mark having writers block they were really doomed from the start.

I think mixing the songs/ideas from WDNTW and the +44 album with all 3 members having input in the songs would have been super interesting as a follow up album.

Fav Travis tracks in Blink: Stockholm Syndrome, Feeling This, Down (every fill is fucking amazing and none repeat), Reckless Abandon, Dysentary Gary.

Favorite of all-time though? Tiny Voices

It’s my least favorite Matt’s song on album.I t don’t think it’s bad but it sounds like something straight from the Kuts to me

  22. “It feels like a big middle finger”: Mark Hoppus, Alex Gaskarth talk Simple Creatures
The way music is written, recorded, distributed and consumed is completely different than when blink first started off. [Back then], it was just the three of us in a practice studio writing songs, throwing ideas around for weeks and months ahead of the recording of the album. When we got into the studio, it was a matter of taking what we’d written and translating it onto tape. Now, with tape machines being gone and the advent of Pro Tools and the availability of recording equipment, you can record an album in your garage. The way we wrote songs is completely different now. It started with the untitled record; we really didn’t have anything written when we went in to record. We had some ideas and were going to work them out in the studio while we were recording, and that’s how we’ve stuck with it now. That’s transformed into having other writers in the studio throwing ideas around.

For me personally, I enjoy writing with other people because I’ve never felt like other artists diminished what I brought to the table. If I’m just left to my own devices, I just do the same similar tempo, rhythm and patterns. Having someone in the studio saying, “What about this?” and pushing me off-center is really valuable.

Some good stuff in this interview.

I think the last paragraph really hammers home the point that Mark needs others to bounce ideas off of which is probably why he got into a writing funk around the time Neighborhoods and DED were being writing/recorded. And that's probably why the songs Mark and Tom didn't collaborate on together weren't very good.

Interesting how they're going to try and make it visually exciting to make up for not having a drummer.

Also I absolutely hate the way journalists describe music. I mean I get that it's hard to describe songs with words but the phrasing of some things just gets on my nerves for some reason. Like "the elastic lead lines on the gutter-glistened "Drug" and "souped up angular 80s anthem". No thank you. Just tell me what the band said please. Haha.

Silly Mark doesn’t he know co writers are supposedly the root of all evil in music? Silly mark.
