Neurosis sold out Thalia Hall the last two times they played there so I'm surprised they didn't go a bit bigger in Chicago on this run.

They're a weird Brazilian band on Neurosis's record label:

I'm not even going to attempt to make a direct comparison because they're a weird amalgamation of noise rock, math rock, punk, hardcore, and sludge. They have a new album coming out later this month.

New Earth song. Repetitive and droney - just what I expect from them. Good stuff.

Another new Inter Arma song. This one's a 12 minute long-one called The Atavist's Meridian. Listening to it now, and it's definitely a slow burner.

i want to see thantifaxath so badly...i missed my chance to see them at mdf last year because i was stuck in one venue watching grindcore while they were performing other in the other venue. we were stuck because of a massive rainstorm outside. :/ someday it'll happen.

Going to this tonight. I kind of want to get there early to check out Fists of Fury since it's their first show but then it's another 2.5 hours before Creeping Death plays. Anyone familiar with any of the other support bands?

I would highly recommend Dayal Patterson's Black Metal: Evolution of the Cult for a really in-depth look into the genre. Tons of photos, tons of interviews. Very insightful.

    In today's listening slate:

(Yes, I already know I posted about these two, but they collectively might be my favorite releases of the year so far so I'm reupping them because I think they're that good. On the first couple listens, this might be my favorite Misery Index release since Traitors, which is probably a top 25 release of all time for me. Sinmara just does it for me, and I can't explain it).

(Gonna be listening to this one on a recommendation of a buddy of mine - seems like it should be good considering the band is made up of current and ex-members of Beyond Creation, Inferi, The Faceless, and Chthe-ilist)

(Debut release from a death metal band on Dark Descent. All I need to know to want to give this a listen)

(Figured I should see what the hype is about this considering all the praise I've heard about it on the blogosphere)
